Invalid VIN

Hi, new Fit owner. I just got my 09 Silver Sport AT earlier tonight. I'm trying to add it to my insurance and their site is telling me my VIN is invalid. A separate VIN lookup site said the same thing.

I don't want to drive to work tomorrow until I get this figured out!

PS: Sweet car, I feel like I'm flying an X-Wing from Star Wars. I'm also looking forward to the difference in MPG compared to my old V8 Jeep Grand Cherokee.

Maybe you got your 5's and S's mixed up. I got a letter from my insurance saying my VIN was invalid also. On the paperwork from the dealer the S looks like a 5, so I got to call my insurance company to correct it.

welcome to the site and enjoy your stay good choice on the fit and congrats. as for the VIN I have no clue why it's invalid maybe you lack some numbers or letters when you entered it but anyhow congrats again and I'm sure there is a big difference on the mpg compared to your jeep.

I went out and double-checked on the car to be sure. My temp registration is printed and the S is pretty different from the 5. Is it safe to post a VIN or should I protect that like a SSN?

Read through that thread as it gives a breakdown of the VIN. I would guess that it is an issue with the "S"...

I'm on the phone with the insurance company, it sounds like they didn't have the 09 Fit in their database.

It happens with insurance.... their data bases are not updated with the new VINs... I had to call in to provide the information...

Funny, I had the same problem with my insurance (Farmers). My agent said it was a problem on their end ...

X-wing is probably an even better comparison. I always thought I was in the Millenium Falcon. Either way we're in the Rebellion.

Maybe a zero should be a letter O or vice-versa.

This might be dependent on the state you live in, but where I live (CA) new cars are covered under existing insurance for 30 days.

With that said, any yahoo walking by your car can pull the VIN # (it is in the front window) so I don't think there is too much security to it.

Glad to hear you got your problem worked out!

I probably was covered because the dealer needed my proof of insurance on the old car. I just wanted to make sure because my commute is 25 miles and people like to run red lights here!
