weird mileage.

ok... first road trip for the fit. LA to SD. (los angeles to san diego,) with 1 stop in irvine.

i fill up 6 gallons with 89 octane. im leaving the gas station and the meter shows 40mpg.. im thinking ok.. i barely moved and that should drop back down to about 35 or so...

im moving southbound on the 710 and i noticed the on the fly meter showed 44 mpg.... i was thinking there's got to be something wrong... im traveling around 70 mph...

i hit the 605S fwy and now that damn thing shows 45.x mpg. dunno how it was achieved so i just glance at it from time to time...

Irvine comes and i make a stop to pick up a couple things and get back onto the road. the mileage dropped down to 40mpg, which is still unbelievable, but not as high as what i saw earlier.

i reach destination in SD and gas meter shows 40.1 mpg....

what the heck is going on?!?!?!

im happy if that's what im really roughly getting, but i dont know how or why it would show that high... (i have doubts that i am really getting what the meter shows.)

No, that's normal mileage that everyone else here is getting. Though the consensus seems to point that the computer is typically around 4 mpg higher than if you calculated your mileage manually. So if your computer shows 40 mpg, your manual calculations would roughly be around 36. Either way the Fit gets surprising mileage.

Deduct 10% from what that meter says as a matter of course. Judge your mileage by distance travelled over gallons consumed. The resulting 36 to 36.5mpg coincides with what many have obtained for such conditions.

A common problem is people misinterpret the 33-35 MPG HWY rating for expressway, which HWY includes speeds ranging from 0 to 60 MPH w/ some slowing down and speeding up in there so expressway MPG is even better.

Yea, the Fit prob gets 50 MPG at 60 MPH. My Si gets around 40 MPG at 60 MPH. Then the Fit gets prob around 8 MPG when accelerating and infinity MPG when decelerating. The Fit prob seriously gets 60 MPG at 35 MPH in 5th gear on level ground. The range is pretty huge.

I suppose if you drove all day long like that you could average 45-50 MPG but that's not real world.

I'll assume your new to MPG meters. Play around w/ it for a bit. Reset it at random times to see how you do. I clocked a 30 mile trip in my old 07 Yaris @ 53 MPG. Just kept the cruise on at 60 MPH w/ a couple of I-Pass tolls (only gotta slow down to like 30 MPH).

Oh and the stock MPG meter is 3-4 MPG optimistic.

It's not a hard and fast rule, just a gauge. The disparity between the methods varies sometimes, so you may or may have been getting 28 mpg.

Yes I am getting the same super inflated high mileage, 46-50mpg. When I compute the actual mpg based on gallons consumed I have calculated on the averaged 40 to 41 mpg. (50/50 city/highway). I called Honda, and they suggested to see the dealer. I called the service manager and explained the situation, he even suggested to drop off the car for the entire day so that they can troubleshoot the potential misreading of the trip computer. I am concerned about the accuracy of the overall onboard computer, because it's telling that with 1900 miles driven so far I still have 90% oil life. I am really surprised that Honda would allow their engineers to design and release a faulty onboard computer chip that is off by 25% in my case. With 1900 miles driven so far my oil life is at 90%, i just don't seem to trust it the onboard computer. I'll be scheduling a dealer visit soon. I'll keep you posted.

Hmm. I think you're the first one to complain to Honda about this. It'll be interesting what they say and if there will be a fix for this.

I have found that the longer between fillups the more accurate the computer is. With less than 50 miles on a tank the computer changes very easily, yet buy 150 to 200 miles on the tank a stop or a light has little to no effect...thunder...your findings may differ:d
