Economy slowing down Fit sales?

I have a Fit on order. But drive past another Honda dealership almost daily in a town close to my own. The have had the same three 09 Fits in the very front of the lot for around a month now. They are not budging. One is a white sport/nav/auto, and the others are a base and a sport. The also still have an 08 base that has been there for longer than the 09s.

All three have no "market adjustment" fees or anything and are just listed at msrp.

I assume it is the tightening credit market?

Ridiculous. I can't even test drive one because by the time I see one is on the website, it has already been sold. And not all of these are pre-ordered; so the first test drive I get will be in the car that I have ordered.

Credit through Honda hasn't changed. Our dealer has gotten multiples in the same colors. We've had 4 Black sport autos so even though you may see a black one it might not be the same black one. Supply has also gone up 25% so it is natural to see some inventory.

Maybe that dealership has accumulated a bad rep from the public and that's why people are staying away from there?

selling

In KC I've yet to see one in stock at a dealership but have seen 2 on the road. I guess they're still selling.

Weird. When I test drove an 09 Sport Auto in September, it was the only one they had on the lot. And the reason why they had it is cause someone canceled their deposit on it. He showed me 16 pre-orders for October and he only had 2 coming in that weren't bought yet for October.

In our dealership Fits don't stick around - usually they are sold when they hit the lot or a few days after. I still have people looking at my 08 to get an impression of the size etc.

Might be a combination of things like tight credit, lower gas prices, people not making big purchases, gloom and doom in the news making people keep their old clunkers on the road longer etc...

There is an initial demand for the Fit. A lot of people were waiting for the new Fit and already have money allocated for it. A month or two from now things will be different.

There is a reason Honda's stocks dropped over 30%. It's very tempting to buy them now.

Yeah, that's it. Some folks gonna keep their old clunkers on the road a bit longer. My '94 318i only has 172,000 miles, still gets 35.5 mpg on the highway with premium so I'm in no hurry....

I don't think interest will decrease in a month or two. The GDs arrived here in 2006 and demand has not let up. It was just as difficult to find a Fit to buy in August this year as it was in 06.

We were at lunch on Friday and a hauler drove past with a MR Fit Sport on the rack. When I drove by the dealership it was on the lot beside the orange Sport Fit which had been on the lot for about one week. Drove by tonight on my way home and both cars are gone. They even put them on the back line behind the Civics but somebody found them!
