No auto-off feature for headlights?
No auto-off feature for headlights?
My wife and I went out to eat and she drove. Her daily driver is an '07 Pilot so she left the lights on thinking they would turn themselves off. Fortunately we have a MT so we were able to roll start it. Some bystanders thought thats how you start these new fangled hybrids!
So is there no auto off feature for the Fit headlights? Maybe it is a feature you can program like the door locks?
I'm guessing not...
Thanks!

i don't think it does. for my car when you leave the headlights on and take out the key when you open the door it will start beeping to remind you to turn off your headlights, but i don't think it has an auto off feature

How long were you're lights running without the engine on? If it was a short time it must be the small battery that conked out early.
Personally, I never used my auto lights on my Accord. No reason to. How hard is it to twist the stalk? Plus it saves your battery.

Works fine for me too.
Yeah, only the daytime running lights (which are on 24/7, unless you've made the mod to shut them off) will shut off when the car is. The [brighter] headlights/taillights need to be shut off manually.
Funny story to share, actually... my dad has a 2000 VW Bug with the same sort of DRL feature (front lights on at reduced power, no rear lights). He was driving at dusk and was pulled over b/c the cop though he was driving without lights. Dad knows the lights are on when the car is on, so he says, "Yeah, they're on, look!" The cop looks and can't believe it b/c the rear lights weren't lit... of course, Dad also didn't realize that the DRLs don't include the rear lights. (He thought the switch in the car only lit up the gauges and upped the wattage on the front... had no idea that it also powered the rear lights!)

Yes, she heard the warning tone which is identical to the one on her '07 pilot, which has the auto off feature so she didn't think about it.
I just figure that it shouldn't be that hard to engineer something like this and that it should be standard on most cars by now. How often would you wan't the headlights on with out the key on?
I had problems with my 94 Civic that didn't have a warning tone for the lights (but it did for the key!). Now that's cheap!
I figure the lights were on for about an hour and a half maybe two hours.
Still, I am super happy with the new car!

It stays that way because of tradition. It use to be common place to leave the marker lights (parking lights) when parked on the side of dark roads. Headlights for when you needed to clear the road ahead (manually). They even use to hang oil lamps on early model cars. Remember those?
I had a camry before and it had auto lights that turns on automatically too. so convenient. But whenever my bf drives it he would instinctively turn off the lights at the end of the run, and when I resume the car, I ended up driving miles in darkness. I think I can live w/ either, but prefer auto lights - as long as I am the only one who drives the car.
I'd rather opt for variable intermittent wind shield wiper if available. to me that's a lot more useful feature to have.

My accord(05) had the auto off lights and I used them if I was going into a place and was coming out when it was dark so that I could find my car and it would provide light if I needed it to walk or anything like that. I have to get used to that with the fit. I agree with the intermittent wipers though. That should be there on most all new cars.
Both coming from Subarus (that have auto-off headlights), my Wife and I are a little disappointed that auto-off headlights isn't even an option on our new Fit. Maybe there's a hack there that can be performed.
We got pulled over last night by a cop after about half a block as we'd of course forgotten to turn on the headlights (well, tail-lights of course is what the cop noticed). The cop was very nice about it as he could tell instantly from our temp license in the back window that the car was new. We'd realized and turned on the lights by the time he got to the window. No ticket or warning, just a friendly reminder.
We have a Black (Sport AT) Fit, and it would be nice if the DRL's also included the tail lights to improve visibility overall on the highway.
