Finally pulled the trigger...

Today I committed to a 2009 Milano Red Sport 5MT. The car is to be built tomorrow (11/13) with a delivery at the end of the month. I'm downsizing from a BMW 335 coupe.

Any words of wisdom from you Fit Freaks?!

Are you keeping the 335i as a weekend car?

New fit owner here as well. Be prepared to be pleased in most every way, and be prepared to brag to coworkers over your mileage

I'd consider a good clear bra, as the hood on these are really forward facing. And treat that Milano Red paint well: Honda used to use a two-stage paint (as opposed to a three stage paints on their other colors), and unless the formulation and layering has changed, keep that car well waxed if you want your color to survive 5 years.

And since when did Honda do factory ordering? I specifically looked into it, and I was under the impression that dealers were at the mercy of Honda NA and the local dealers who would be willing to do dealer trades for stock availability?

Negative, it's history. It was time to cut back some expenses.

The car was allocated to another dealer, but was not built yet. My dealer is something like #9 in the country so they can more or less swipe whatever cars they want. I was a bit surprised at the turnaround time from build to delivery. The build is 11/13 and the initial delivery date is 11/25. Does this sound about right?

I hear you. The Fit is a nice downgrade... peppy little engine, lots of space, great daily driver. I can't wait for my Accord lease to end so I can drive the Fit more... got it about 2 months too early, so I'm just slapping the miles on the leased car for now. Enjoy your new ride when it comes!

They probably made tried to make themselves sound more impressive than they actually are They probably had a fit that the dealer who was getting the red one wanted, and the trade just lined up.

I'd definitely look into at least getting floor mats and the cargo cover. Those installs are easy enough that you should only pay someone to do those if you can't be trusted to not stab yourself with a screwdriver The cargo cover install is slightly more complicated, as you have to do a little measuring and the included instructions are asinine (You can find the proper dealer instructions online through various honda OEM parts websites). The door sill runners look REALLY nice in my opinion, but the install on that would be really easy to screw up and get them set at an angle, so I'd have the dealer (or a shop) install those.

Also, get wheel locks: The bolt pattern on those match what they use on the older civics and integras, and the nicer OEM wheels are hot theft items.

You in Florida? What dealer? I doubt it's the Honda I work at, they wouldn't let me order one, they were pretty much like "Yea you work here, we have two sport autos coming in; one in white, one in silver. White one was sold, do you want the silver?"

If the build date is 11/13, I seriously doubt it's going to be delivered by the 25th. I think 4 to 5 weeks would be a closer estimate...

My Fit was supposedly built on 10/27 and I'm still waiting for delivery. And I live in Oregon.

From what I've read on these forums, the port of entry is either Portland, OR or National City, CA (outside of San Diego). That means your Fit has to travel really far!

I agree with pizzicato, if your build date is 11/13, you will take delivery in about 5 weeks, give or take a week or so. Honda only uses two ports of entry into the US- Portland, OR and near San Diego, CA. Your Fit will be put onto a train at the port of entry and moved to a distrubution point somewhere in your region where it will be put on a truck and delivered to your dealer. Here is an interesting article/video about the new train cars that Honda has developed recently- Ticket to Ride: Honda develops Auto-Max 22-vehicle rail car - Autoblog

Also, you are lucky you have a build date of today, because I have heard that Honda won't be shipping anything from Japan starting mid Dec through mid Jan due to the holidays.

Congrats!! ENJOY YOUR NEW RIDE WHEN YOU GET IT!

As per the suggestion above, I'd say that floor mats are a must, and the all seasons definitely make the Fit a lot pimper than say carpet ones. But who gets carpets anyways if they don't come with them by default? =p. Cargo cover is a breeze to install...it's basically a snap on. I'm pretty sure that there was no installation charge on mine, so you only pay for the part itself.
