New 09 Owner. Advice needed.

Hi guys,

I have a 2003 Mercury Marauder (for those that know or care for them), and I just bought a 2009 Fit (Black, Auto) for Daily Driving.

I paid $17,300 OTD with taxs, tag, dealer fees, ect. and I have MANY questions.

Do the keys for the 09 Fit have a chip? If so, I would like to make a copy (in order to have 3 keys should one get lost) but the selling dealer wanted to take me to the cleaners ($120 each). Do any of you have a source that can make copies and then send me instructions of how to program the third key?

I always change the oil at around 300 miles and then every 3K (if dyno). I do it myself. Do you know what Honda uses at the dealership?

I really like this forum and am looking forward to learning from you guys.

Pics to follow soon.

Thanks in advance.

I know the Sport model for sure has an immobilizer, but I'm not sure about the other models. If it does have an immobilizer then the $120 sounds about right because the key is chipped, and it's laser cut. You can't get it done anywhere else I don't think...'cause when you're making a copy of the master you need the serial number that should have came with your keys. This is all to the best of my knowledge.

All Fits have the immobilizer, US and Canada.

The keys to my Marauder are chipped too and one can program them themselves so long as they have two or more programmed keys on hand. That is why I want my third key now, so that I can still program them myself.

This is my first Honda and I have yet to develop the proper connections. I am SURE that their must be some dealer somewhere that will make make me a copy (provided I give him my key code) for around $40 or so.

What else do you think I should know? The car is at 6 miles now and I am reading on this site like mad.

Thanks guys!

Congrats on your new fit.

On your question about motor oil I think each dealership have their own preference on it.

Have fun.

Honda recommends to delay the very first oil change. Around 7500 miles or when the oil indicator displaces 10% or less. Although i do not think there is any harm in changing oil early, just not necessary.

I wouldn't change the oil for the first time until the oil life gets to under 15%. I think Honda uses a special break-in oil (with increased Molybdenum), so you won't want to change that prematurely.

These things were never done in any American car that I ever bought.

Will wait at least 3K before first change. Thanks for the advice.

What about the key guys???
