Fit at Phoenix New Car Show

Went to the new car show in downtown Phoenix this afternoon. As soon as I went in, I saw the Honda display, so went to see the Fit. They had one on display, a Blackberry Pearl with auto trans. This was the first time I had a chance to really get a good look at the new Fit. Boy do I love that car!

I went around and looked at a bunch of cars that Fit would compeat with, and there is just no comparison. Chevy Aveo- hard seats and just blah, and I'm being kind. Same with Hyundai Accent. Nice little car, but just not in the same class as Fit. I like the Civic and I made some notes Vs the Fit. The Civic has really thick B pillars and I could see where that could be a problem if another car was in that blind spot. Also real small windows next to the B pillar - you really can't see anything out of them. The Fit had thinner B pillars, and no problem with a blind spot. Fit has a nice big window (almost like a ("wind wing" from years ago) and you can see out of it easily. The Fit was bigger than the old one - my initial impression was that it's not a lot smaller than Civic. More glass in the Fit; bigger windshield and you can just see more than you can in the Civic. I felt more at ease in the Fit than the Civic. Nice seats, very comfortable in both cars. Oh yeah, when looking thru the rear view mirror in the Civic, noted that the rear seat head rests blocked a bit of the view. Not so with the Fit. I do like the Civic guages better, even tho they look a bit like something from the Enterprise. Hey - not all bad. I am a Trekkie.

The Fit guages were OK, but the tach was too small. I do love that they are blue. Sat in the Scion XB and it has red/orange guage lights. Thought it was cool at first, but it gets to ya after awhile. Blue is much better, more soothing, if you will. Plus Blue is my favorite color. The Fit engine is small in size - I was kinda shocked at how small it is. The battery looks like something from a motor cycle. heh The one thing that I did not like on both cars is that you can't see where the front of the car is. Line of sight stops at the windshield wipers. That would take some getting used to.

I talked to the sales guy there and he was from Superstition Springs Honda in Mesa (Arizona). Said he was getting his ID so he could post on fitfreak, so hopefully we will hear from him. He did say that he fell in love with the Fit and bought one about 3 weeks ago. Said he took 3 other people and cooler, etc and drove up to Lake Havasu City, where we have the real London Bridge. Said no problem with power and he got 40 MPG. I asked him if that was from the computer or "real world". He was surprised and said from the computer, so I mentioned that they are a bit optomistic.
He said he didn't know that. Ah yes....Anyhoo, sorry to be so long winded. Just wanted to let you know my thoughts. Oh, forgot one thing - Honda has a new car brochure that lists all the '09 cars. Guess what car is on the cover? Fit.

I was surprised to not see the new Insight there.

Acura has the new TL there in the ugliest color I've ever seen. It is metallic brown with a hint of maroon. Such an ugly color on such an ugly car.

When the new Fit was at the Seattle Car Show it was attracting quite a crowd. I felt like I worked for Honda because I was praising it up and down to the people who were looking at it. Sad thing is, it seemed like I knew way more about the car than the Honda Reps who were there.....
