Obviously, there are pros and cons to everything. Besides my Fit, a big reason why I get such great gas mileage is because I choose to wake up at 4:00 am every morning to avoid the traffic that starts at 5:30 am.

I'm not familiar with the traffic in Michigan but I understand there are elements such as the cold that you have to deal with. There is no perfect car but the Fit offers comfort, good cargo space, reliability and above-average gas mileage at a relatively inexpensive price.

I work for the Department of Public Health. I work on the surveillance of HIV/AIDS in Los Angeles County. Fortunately, my job allows me to be flexible with my hours. I go in early and I leave early (5:30 am to 2:00 pm)... allowing me to avoid most of the traffic.

The size of the gas tank is FINE...not sure why this is an issue for you. My (minor) complaints about the 2009 Phit is the lack of disc brakes in the rear, not factory sunroof option, and the lack of a "privacy cover" for the back cargo area. Other than that, I LOVE MY PHIT!!!

My complaint is that the car is called the "Fit".

No... "Jazz" is not any better.

I did not hear about the auto repair tax or whatever. But I guess its a good thing we drive Hondas.

Well if the small tank is the biggest weakness then we have a real gem here. The tank is bigger than the one in my older Civic.

As stated by another member on this thread, the size of the tank should be pretty balanced with the performance(mpg) and size of the car. My nissan xterra had a 16 gallon tank, but I would only get 180-200 miles to the tank. The best tank I ever got on my xterra was 220. So I think tank size always evens out with mpg.

The only reason I'd ever worry about the size of my tank is if I frequently drove long distances, which I don't. If it's just a minor inconvenience to fill up a day or two earlier than I'd like to in my local area, I think I can deal with that. I'm getting almost 15mpg better in my car now than in my last so I'm pretty sure it at least evens out.

The brakes in the Fit have taken a longer break-in than what I usually would expect. At about 2K miles, they started feeling a lot better. I haven't tried an emergency stop yet (neither have I activated the ABS or the VSA systems... I hope they work when I need them!), but I feel a lot more confident at 3K miles than I did at 1K miles.

I'm hoping that the performance of the braking can be subtly improved with better pads, and actually isn't a significant shortcoming of the booster/rotors/drums....

I get around 360-370 miles on the tank to when the light comes on. It says I get 37.9 mpg. My Cobra had a larger tank and I on went about 220 miles per tank, lol. Yeah the brakes could be beefier. They feel okay, but the just don't produce enough force.

I don't think it's a problem, but I do miss the 17 gallon tank on my old accord. It got similar gas mileage, and it was nice only having to fill up once every two weeks lol.

No fair! Come teach me to drive. If I drive mostly highway/freeway, I still only get 32 actual mpg. Of course, my gauge says higher .

I thought it was crappy CA gas, but you're in CA too...

Still better than all of those Californians who left and are freezing right now.

What a time to move out of California, lol. I think I would die in most any other state right now. Too f'ing cold.
