Unhappy Gas Mileage on Fit Sport 09 Auto

My Fit Sport 09 Automatic has almost three months and 700 miles on it. Although I haven't followed the MPG too closely, I noticed I'm doing about 220 miles with 10 gallons, which translates to 22 mpg. This is mostly inner city driving.

However, the MPG meter on the car says I'm averaging 28 mpg. Isn't something wrong here? And why am I getting such a lackluster fuel efficiency?

Should I take it in to the dealer for an inspection?

Thanks,
Ralph

Many members will agree that the MPG meter is off by 2-5 MPG. Next time you gas up divide total miles on your tripometer by gallons you filled up with. My Fit started getting noticeably better after I passed the 1500 mile mark. I do mostly inner city driving like your self and get about 230-240 till the quarter tank mark. Last time I checked my MPG it was between 26-29.

I think your MPG will improve as you get more miles on the car. On my Fit, once i past the 1-2k mark, i noticed my mpg improving by around 2 mpg. My fit is almost 4 months old and i have about 6300 miles on it with an average mpg recently of 36mpg but thats with a little more highway than city driving.

I'd say wait and see if ur mpg gets better with more miles and warmer weather coming soon. It should rise to at least 25-27 mpg with all city driving i think....there must be others who do only city driving who could say how much they get.

as you drive more, your driving habits will improve.

truth. ^ and in addition, roll your windows up when driving on the highway or 45+mph, this can also concern of how much cargo you have in your car.. is your AC on most of the time. and etc.

there are a lot of reasons why you are gettin' bad MPG.
Not to be a dick, but 60% of the time, its a driver's fault not the car itself.

I bought my Fit Sport A/T in September, and I've gotten about 33-35 MPG/city and 38-40 MPG/hwy.

I've own my sport for 1 month now and my average both city and highway together is 33mpg with a 10.2 fill up. just freeway only on my way to Disneyland 42mpg. got to play with the pedal. go 70mph and let off the pedal just a little bit and u will keep your same speed and watch your mpg go up. as for the meter i think it resets every 20 seconds. just keep your meter around 40 and u should average 33mpg every time.

My first two tanks were 29.xx almost 30mpg. The last 3 have been 33mpg. Car has about 1600 miles on it. I have been using Phillips gas (no alcohol, all gas). Next tank I'm starting on Chevron to see how 5 tanks go with that.

I have about 700 miles on my Fit Sport AT, and my MPG was a decent 33.5 MPG (actual calculation) in mixed highway and city driving. As others have noted the indicated MPG on the car's trip meter is over by about 10% (reading 37 MPG or so). A lot depends on how you drive and traffic conditions. I still find myself relatively faster away from stoplights than others around me, but I don't unnecessarily floor it. I try to keep the tach below 3,000 for the most part, since the engine is still relatively new.
