So I had a Fit

So in 2007 through reasons that were out of my control at the time I made a choice to help someone out I had to part ways with my red GD3 sport. (zoom forward to the present) Well after a year of being fit-less I talked my wife into getting a family car. It just “happens” to be the most “versatile”/“fun” car I have ever owned! I’ll give you a hint I got the GD3’s newer brother. So I started looking and browsing at various dealerships most were asking 15,800 or higher in this area for the base with absolutely nothing in it.

So I took some leave from work and went home to the dealership where I had got my 07, I walked in the door and when the dealer greeted me I asked to look at a M/T 09 fit, so they pull up the only one they have (base wise) a Milano red base I had to keep myself from smiling. So we did the usual sit down and talk and I told him that I would buy the car that night if he could sell the car to me for 14,800 just a smidge over msrp before shipping as you all know, he made it happen so he made money and I felt I got a deal everyone was happy (5.9% $213 72 months).

Since I found all the helpful hints as always on this site I got to work a week after I got the car. I went to the dealership with a print out from college hills Honda and they matched the price for the FOB key! Of course they told me my car needed keyless entry for it to work LOL 5min later after programming the FOB to my car I locked and unlocked my car from the inside of the dealership haha. Next I went to home depot and bought $2 gutter guard and fitted it to the back of that HUGE opening in the front of the grill with some zip ties. Now I know I might catch a little flame for this but I couldn’t stand the silver hub caps so I sanded and painted them a gloss black which makes it so much better looking till I can get some rims. The next mod will be the PRM intake! I can’t wait.

I am happy to be a part of this forum again and I want to thank everyone for the helpful advice posted and I hope I may be able to contribute to that in the future!

I got to upload the pics but I will hopefully tomorrow. As for the hub caps I sanded them down first then washed them in warm soapy water. After they dried I put a base primer on them waited till they were dry then applied the gloss black one layer every ten min. This may sound weird but then once they were dry and cured about a week or so later I rubbed tire wet on them and I try to apply it every couple of weeks (it makes the caps realy easy to clean I mean a slight wipe with a cloth) lol I think it looks great for a low price since Im the only bread winner in the house!

Congrats on the good deal and welcome back to getting FIT.

Can I ask a few questions about the key?

How did you program the Key Fob (and without even needing to be inside the car)?

Did you get the Key programed too or just the Fob?

Thanks and welcome back.

Lol sorry I did program the key first in the car then I went inside to show them it could be done without the $200 kit. As for the key itself right now im just using it as the remote thats all I may get the chip programed and the key cut but since I have two keys neways I'm gonna wait :-)

I'm a bit confused. Are you saying that there is no additional device installation needed in a base Fit in order to have keyless entry? All you need is a key fob with the buttons on it, program it to the car, and that's it? The car has keyless built in? I don't get what you did.
And I like the blacked out hubcaps.

This pretty much explains the keyless entry addition to the base model.

https://www.fitfreak.net/forums/2nd-...ase-model.html

The base model already has the signal receiver and actuators on the door locks. All you have to do is get the fob and program it. Programming it is nothing but turning the ignition switch on and off and pushing buttons.

I can't say I really like the look of the black hubcaps myself. But I never really liked back rims on cars either. They just never looked right to me. But your work is good. Nice job.
