No Fit gor now, bought HHR

I have been following the introduction of the Fit via this excellent forum since 9/05. I think the Fit is one of the best engineered cars ever conceived and I may still buy a “generation two” model down the road, but for now the “Sport” body stuff I would have to buy to get the options I want was a deal killer for me.

That said I went ahead and purchased a Chevy HHR last week, the top line trim edition "LT2" with the 2.4/5 speed and a long list of bells and whistles. I know the mileage will not be quite as good, but with the sport suspension (which includes 17 inch wheels) its fun to drive, has great fit and finish (GM has come a long ways – no comparison to my 2002 Camaro!) and with my GM credit card money was just over 13K out the door.

I am going to continue to follow Fit development via this forum and want to thank its creators, contributors and sponsors, Great Job folks:)!

you sound very happy with it so congrads. i myself don't like the HHR so i didn't even consider it, but that is a matter of personal taste i guess. before i got the fit i test drove chevy cobalt (besides everything else we test drove) and liked the fit much better. IMO finish level and... actually everything else besides the price and availability is just better. i mean cobalt is not a bad car but it is just good enough while fit is very good. again matter of personal preference

never the less ,enjoy your car!
regards

GL with the HHR.
I just helped jump start a 2006 Saturn. What a dissapointment. The key would not come out. They put the Fuses on top of the battery. Sound proofing looked like they just threw it on.
It convinced me to wait another 5 yrs before even considering a GM car.
Sorry

Good luck.

I drove the HHR as a rental. It was OK.

The Fit feels more nimble and definitely has better mpg.

HHR is roomy, sorta retro but not as fresh as when the PT cruiser first arrived.

172 to be exact and the 5 speed manual works great, not quite as slick as the Honda manual of course but I am really enjoying the flexability it gives me - the engine is a 2.4L VVT and is quite smooth even at high revs.

As a side note, I got 28.6 MPG (50/50 city/highway) on the 1st tank and just filled up last night and got 30.2 MPG (40% city 60% highway). The "MPG" read out the car has in its "info center" gives you ongoing MPG results (as well as outside temp, A/B mile counters, miles to empty, cooling system temp, etc) as you drive and was very close to actual when I filled the car up.

The legroom in my Fit is beginning to be a problem for me so I'm gonna trade it in for an Element. I did go check out and HHR tonight but there isn't enough headroom for me and that's with the seat all the way down. I'm only 5'10" but I guess that is to much height for these vehicles, but I will be staying in the Honda family. Have fun in your HHR it is a very nice vehicle.
