My Fit Sport isn't very sporty

Hi Fit Forum,

I've been looking to upgrade my suspension to give me more clearance and a smoother ride, but every time I look for some info on suspension, I can only find articles about lowering the car.

I bought my Fit Sport because of the awesome gas mileage and incredible use of interior space, and I guess my interpretation of "Sport" included not bottoming out when going over small bumps and not shaking me uncontrollably when going down a gravel road. I guess I didn't realize that the Fit was so incredibly urban specific. I want to use it to go backpacking, rock climbing, mountain biking, etc.

Any suggestions on what I should look to upgrade?

well the lowness and bumpyness is usually associated with "sport" on cars. Maybe you were leaning more towards a small hybrid SUV or something. but yeah i think coilovers might be the answer. But I think they would be just as bumpy?

And to get an idea on spring rates and shock valving look at WRC rally cars. No I'm not joking, they are set up for lots of suspension travel and excellent control of jounce and rebound. Good Luck!

If you're the type who likes venturing off the beaten track with your Fit, maybe the Beatrush under-panel will serve you well. Not so much for aerodynamic gains methinks, but for added shielding of your oil pan and suspension against loose gravel.

Otherwise, the Fit really isn't cut out for such duties. I mean, it can crawl through a dirt road just fine; just don't count on catching up with even light-duty SUVs or pickups. Elsewhere people have called our cars mere grocery-getters.

Thanks for the ideas

I love my Fit, but I guess I want it to be just a little more. I'd never trade my 38 mpg average for a gas-sucking SUV though. I'll figure something out.

The under-panel is a good suggestion.

I want to see somebody deck out a fit into an awesome, off road vehicle... is that too much to ask?

I would think so, I don't think Honda had any intentions of the car being taken off-road much in their engineering of the car.
