Remote starter on CDN 09 Fit Sport Manual PLEASE HELP

First of all, in case you don't know: Honda Canada recommends against installing the Honda remote starter kit on vehicles equipped with a manual transmission and thus no Canadian Honda Dealers will do it for you.

No problems right, simply buy the starter base (Honda Remote Engine Starter Civic, CR-V, Fit - Bernardi Honda Parts and Accessories) and attachment (Honda Remote Engine Starter Attachment Kit Fit - Bernardi Honda Parts and Accessories) kits and install them yourself according to the instructions (http://www.bernardiparts.com/Images/...r_AII39870.pdf).

Well before you try that you need YES answers to the following questions:

1. Will the kit work on a CDN 09 Fit Sport Manual? I.e. Will the Honda remote starter start the engine without the clutch being engaged?
2. Is the remote engine starter registration process required (see pages 17 - 20 in the instructions linked above)? I.e. Will the Honda remote starter work if this process is not completed with a handheld Honda Diagnostic System Tester?

I'm sure you probably have to work at a dealership (or know someone) to know the answers to these questions.

If you know these answers (i.e. are not speculating) it would be greatly appreciated.

I don't know why you would even go with the remote starter from Honda....just get a third party one like compustar or something. well respected and known to work.

this is just speculation...but it may not work...thats reason number 1 i would find aftermarket options. the majority of them have wiring options for MT. i dont see that option for the Honda brand.

NO it will not work without this step. you're teaching the control unit of the remote start the immobilizer code. same code thats programmed into your key. no code = no start.

hope that helped!

Thanks folks.

I prefer Honda quality and pure/clean integration with full warranty.

Sadly it looks like it isn't gonna happen.

Add this to the "ouch" list of 09 CDN Fit Sport Manual heart breakers:

1. No steering wheel audio controls option.
2. No bluetooth option.
3. Revs too high at highway speeds.
4. No Honda remote start option.

Not to mention the other stuff that doesn't really bother me but seems to bother others:

1. No navi option.
2. No VSC option.
3. No TPMS.
4. No map light.

If you go to a certified installer then you still get full warranty and the car warranty is still intact. In fact, the Honda dealership I go to outsources to a local business that does it for them, backed with the full warranty so if you have any troubles with the starter you go through them, not Honda. Also the problem with a Honda starter is that if anything goes wrong, you'll have to end up going through the stealership as I'm willing to bet that it'll be a lot harder to find a third party that will tinker with it for you.

Steering wheel and bluetooth options are both not available for any of the North American Fits, and I don't think for any other Fit (Euro or JDM) either, though I could be wrong there.

I'll agree with the map light, but the navi, VSC and TPMS are really small things...if you say that, the USDM Fit doesn't have a low washer fluid indicator, and I find that more useful than the TPMS...which you can see when you walk by your car. Just remember, the more convenient electronic options you have, the more potential problems you'll also have.

US Fits with Navi have steering wheel audio controls, but you're right about the bluetooth (not currently offered).

Don't get me wrong, I love my Fit...

...just a bit disappointed that a decision made by Honda's legal team to avoid liability is preventing me from purchasing and benefiting from an existing technical solution that would make a wonderful car even better. It's ridiculous, if the car owner leaves the car in gear and starts it with the remote causing damage, clearly the owner is responsible NOT Honda. No need to "limit" the functionality of the Honda remote starter, clearly the aftermarket products do not.

Or even better, engineer the Honda remote starter to pay attention to whether or not the car is in gear... come on Honda.

Fair enough, but keep in mind Honda's there to make a good car, not to make car starters. There're enough aftermarket companies around that do an excellent job such that Honda would be wasting their time and money to incorporate a remote starter with the computer chip to tell if the car is in gear or not. .

What would be the cost (part + installation) for a compustar that works with a MT Fit Sport? Give me a ball park figure.

Keep in mind, most reputable installers/car electronic shops WON'T install a car starter on a manual either due to liability reasons as well.

Having watched a manual trans car repeatedly bang itself into the side of a building because of a remote starter, I understand why no one ever wants to put one on a manual tranny car. I tried it once and was unable to get my car to ignore the clutch pedal not being down. I settled for adding power window control and it worked for me.

And personally, I would gladly trade my navi option for the cool heated and power folding exterior mirrors!

You're looking at probably 400-500 just for the starter and add a couple hundred for including the alarm system. I myself paid a local garage (that I've been to before) $550 cash for both the alarm + starter.

When you have a remote starter on a MT car, you have to follow a strict protocol when you turn off your vehicle, to "program" your car so that it can be started. So if you followed that, and had your vehicle turned off etc., and you went inside only to realize you forgot something in your car, the moment you unlock your car you won't be able to remotely start your car, and you'll have to turn on your vehicle again and do the protocol all over again :P. Bit of a PITA but it's for safety reasons so your car doesn't accidentally lurch.
