Unhappy [Pics Fixed] Sad day for my new Orange fit - Need body shop recommendations

Hello,

So I recently completed a job related to NJ. I was parked on the street outside my friend's home and we heard a loud crunching sound. Looked out the windows and realized some idiot has blown off the driver side mirror for my fit and a Jeep parked behind it . The idiot also put a few scratches on my fit, I am worried the paint has been damaged or scratched off (pics 2 and 3) . What do you guys think? Sorry for the poor picture quality, I am not very good with a camera.

I need recommendations for a body shop in NJ/NYC area. Anybody got anyone trust worthy? Also do you think I would need the entire mirror assembly?

I can see the photos just fine (Win XP, Mozilla)....looks like he's using a Geocities host if that helps any - here's a couple hotlinks for yall: http://www.geocities.com/paramthegreat/fit_01.jpg http://www.geocities.com/paramthegreat/fit_02.jpg

Anyway, 'Tis but a flesh wound man!... I would pop a new side mirror on and buff the rest out. Could have been a lot worse!

EDIT: Looks like his hosting site is having issues causing the photos to display erratically, as of right now even my hotlinks won't work because his host is down. Check back in a few (or refresh) and they should pop up.

OWW! I feel bad for that poor fit having to sit outside on the curb like that. Try buffing the scuffs out first and buying a new mirror though before you give your money away to a bodyshop though! It doesn't look too bad. Just needs some TLC and a new parking space.

that sucks man, i hate parking on the side streets. I know some people who actually got there cars totaled just parked out in the streets or either got broken in.

you should try to work things out on your own by trying to buffing it out if hopefully the scratches on the paint aren't to deep, touchup paint. and buy a new mirror and install it.

body shops normally charges you an arm and a leg if you want quality work but there are cheaper once but like they said, " you get what you pay for. " good luck.

Damn man...yeah I wouldn't park on the side of the road. Similar thing happened to my EG coupe, but the taillight was broken instead of a side mirror.

Scratches can be buffed out definitely. Grab a nice sponge and soap and water and rub them clean. U should get most of the scuffs out (the gray stuff). ONce that's gone, check to see if you have any deeper scratches in the clear coat. If u do, get some rubbing compound and work that in. Then wax and enjoy.

For the mirror, don't go 2 a body shop, they will charge u an arm and leg. Order the parts from bernardiparts.com and replace them yourself. I know the mirrors come with pre-painted parts so u don't even have to paint them.

Thank you everyone for your replies. I've fixed the image links. I'm having problems with Geocities (which yahoo is shutting down soon), so moved them to photobucket.

I'm not very confident with buffing my new car, so I'll have to check with the local detail shop. The mechanism on the mirror still works, so I am thinking I would just need the front mirror and rear cover assembly.

That hurts to look at! Hopefully not too bad and can be fixed easily. Yes, it could be worse - my little Ford Ranger XLT was hit and ran on several years ago and it was over $1300.00 in damage.

go to bernardiparts.com and put in the fit sport, it is under the interior/bumper and all the parts you need are there to get the mirror. I have taken apart the mirrors before and it is a snap. look up the post here about turns signal winkers and it will give you a detailed step by step in taking the mirror apart.

hope this helps

Look on the bright side, it's a good excuse now to remove the pin stripe

Look for ScratchX at the store it does wonder for scuffs and light scratches and I am sure you can replace that mirror with a DIY.
