Unhappy My poor Fit!

Alright guys, I started looking at this forum a few weeks ago. First off, I wanted to say thanks! All the comments of the Fit helped convince me to buy me one for myself.

I opted for the white 2009 fit auto w/ nav. My previous car was a 2001 Toyota Corolla S my parents had bought for me. Now I have a car I can truly call my own!

So anyways, I've had this amazing car for about 2 weeks now. I knew today was going to be a bad day when the internet didn't work this morning (you'll see the connection later.). This afternoon, I was driving home. I stopped at a red light and all of a sudden, WHAM. My brand new car already got rear-ended! =[ Alright, as you can see in the pictures below, it's not even that bad. But this is my first accident ever, and I wanted to have a pity party for myself. By the way, I was hit by a huge Comcast (or Comcrap??) truck with a guy on his cell phone. After he hit me, he proceeded to jump out of the car and yell at me, saying now he is going to be suspended for 3 days and have to get a drug test.

Oh well, 'tis life. At least it wasn't my fault right?

Agreed. Sad day for you sir. Although it doesn't look like much in the pics, I have been hit like that before and it was not fun! At least you know you have Fitfreak.net in your corner for moral support!

Let us know what kind of repair estimates you get for that damage...those figures never cease to amaze me. Anyway, glad your alright - way to have an eye-catching first post!

Unhappy Insist on your rights

Someone hits you in the rear at a red light it is always their fault. My advice is if you have a good insurance carrier is let them fix your car and let them go after the other party while you drive a rental to work at their expense. Since it is not your fault your insurance will not go up as this is not a claim against you. Don't be afraid to tell your agent you were in a wreck. You're a victim.

Don't waste time haggling with the other person's adjuster, they have only one thing in mind and that's getting you to settle without paying the full amount. Don't take a check, get it fixed at the best shop in town and let your agent beat up theirs. Been there, done that.

My insurance carrier will have your car in the body shop being disassembled that day or the next day and you in a rental car. Once it is fixed if anything goes wrong (paint peels five years later) it gets fixed. If you have to wait days to see an adjuster you need to find a better company. You don't have to get multiple estimates and settle for the lowest, your rights (in Cali anyway) is to get it fixed to your satisfaction.

A pox on the truck driver. Maybe you want to complain to their district manager. Best of luck.

I'm just glad no one got hurt. I can tell this is going to be a real pain for two reasons:

The Comcast guy was clueless. He had two different registrations and two different insurance carriers (he wasn't sure which one he currently has coverage under) I wonder how I'm gonna figure out which one to make a claim under.

I will not be able to get a rental while my car is in the shop because I'm not 21. (Rental companies don't typically give out cars to people under 21). So, I guess I'll have to borrow my mom's "soccer mom" CR-V with the sports stickers on the back and faux-diamond studs around the licence plate. Sadness.

When I totalled my S2000 I was under the age of 21 and was also worried that I wouldnt get a rental, I talked to the insurance company and they told me to just rent the car under my moms name. Then they sent me a check to pay the rental car for 2 weeks. I had geico FYI.

I feel for ya, bro. As for the driver's insurance ands registration, let your insurance company go after him and figure it out. That's why they have lots of lawyers on their payroll.

Sorry to hear about your misfortune FittingRightIn. They should really ban the use of cellphone while behind the wheel. Too much distraction going on.

Hope you get your FiT fixed soon and repainted and it will be all good again.
Keep us posted.

Cell phone use while driving has been illegal in NY for some time now (except "hands free"), but there isn't a day goes by I don't see someone here driving with a cell phone glued to their ear.

I have rented a couple times under the age of 25 (I'm 22 now) under my name. I my insurance company (USAA) lets me. A couple major rental places will let you, but charge more.

I love the second gen crv, my mom has the base model w/ MT and its awesome

Yeah, it is good. Hers is the '08 LE or LX something (whatever one has the nav in it). But it's really not something for me. I'd rather walk to wherever I'm going than to be in a car with a studded license plate edge and a heart keychain. Thanks though!

It seems like some of the design cues of the Fit come from the CR-V (or is it vice-versa?), such as the headlights. Even my mom said when she first saw it, "it's my car! Only miniature!"

I've e-mailed the insurance company the accident/police report, but apparently the only adjuster "in the area" is a few days booked. Oh well. It gives me time to look for some new custom parts I can get put in! I've been looking at some custom parts, but I'll admit I'm a bit confused and admittedly a novice. Any recommendations? Thanks!

Honestly theres no aftermarket rear bumpers for our cars yet. Not much you can do with the hatch. Theres crap for aftermarket parts for us right now.

Sorry to hear about your accident but at least the jerk who hit you will need to take care of your damage. Hope you get the car up and back to good as new ASAP!
