Check Gas Cap
Check Gas Cap
Either the search is not working or it is awful. When I search the results are instantaneous--odd because it normally takes a bit of loading. I am sure that there are 4 threads on this already.
Back on topic. Earlier I had the odometer screen read "Check Gas Cap". I have removed and replaced the gas cap several times with no luck. Anyone else have this trouble?

This has probably pulled in the OBDII touble code. It will eventually reset itself after a half dozen or more driving sessions (after your cars computer determines it really doesn't have a leak in the fuel tank sysem). You can usually clear this like the previous post said by disconnecting the battery (resets the computer) or you can have the OBDII code reset with a scanner. Autozone will usually do this for free if you take it to them to read the codes.
i had this problem also like a month ago.
the light came on. so i took off the cap and put it back
on. i must have did it like three times and at the same
time i was starting the car and cutting it off.
after the third time it went right out.
really don't know why it happened. at that time i didn't get
gas for at least 2 days. i have heard of it happening right
after people fill up. but not like this. oh well it's done now.
never seen it again.

I've had this a couple times, but it's been months since it's happened. Here's what works for me (found this somewhere else).
1) Start Car
2) Remove Gas Cap (with car still running)
3) Turn Off Car
4) Screw Gas Cap back on
5) Turn On Car
Should be gone. Has worked everytime for me.

When my warning light came on, I stopped at the dealer and they reset it.
The service guy said sometimes it will come when you slosh the gas a lot. His observation fits my diriving just before I saw the warning.
(The dealer is on my way in and out of town - very convenient!)

yup what he said. it doesn't go away right after you tighten the cap. if it eventually turns into a check engine light, then you may have a faulty gas cap or a leak in the fuel system, but that is unlikely. just give it some time.
You are not alone. I have this issue as well, not a huge deal but, just another minor gripe.
