I found info on the 1st Gen to add a spring to stiffen the gas pedal and reduce leg fatigue. It is not quite the same on 2nd Gen.

I took a test drive around the block. It may be a bit too stiff but at my age better than too soft eh.

I found a U-bolt which went around the pedal rod easily and held the S hook as well. I have small feet so it is high enough but could be higher if need be.

You old guys put a towel on the Dead Pedal to save elbow as it is fiddly getting a wrench on the nuts. One of those speed box ends would be perfect.

I gave it a good test last evening. Drove 401 to Brampton and back to KW. I could not use cruise as too much traffic at 120km. Well it works really well. No more holding the foot up. My butt felt good too.

Also hit first 1000 kms. Only took two weeks. That is a lot of driving for me.

My interior burlwood trim kit arrived two days ago and yesterday the 8 piece stainless for door pillers. Now if it would warm up and stop raining.

 

I think this would only work well if you have small feet and/or just push the pedal with your toe. Sometimes when I'm driving in boots, I catch my toe on the box with the sensor.

 

Well it is not very expensive to try.

At first I was hitting the spring but now I forget it is there and yes I wear boots in the winter.

 

Not for me...but to each his own.
I just use cruise control if my leg becomes fatigued.

BTW how does this operate with cruise control? Doesn't cruise still (automatically) push the pedal down. Wouldn't having this huge spring on there hinder its performance when you do want to use cruise?

 

Does not affect cruise control.

 

With "throttle by wire," all the accelerator pedal does is send a signal to the ECM. The ECM tells the throttle plate to open, or close. When you engage the cruise control, the ECM records the vehicle speed, and then continuously adjust the throttle plate to maintain the recorded speed.

 

Just wanted to add you can also hook it on the bracket above the pedal. You'll need a little longer spring or s-hook. The tension will be closer to the wall then the rubber pedal so it doesn't get in the way of your foot.

 

To each is their own, Yes, but CC also adjusts the pedal position (at least on the GK). You can feel it doing so under your foot if you hold lightly while CC works you over hills.

 

Not sure why you think it does but the GK Fit is drive by wire, there is no mechanism in the pedal to facilitate the pedal moving on its own. All it contains is a potentiometer for sending position and an internal return spring.

 

Whatever it is the spring mod works with Cruise. Also with heavy winter boots. Mine has been on for 10 years.
