pc card question

What is the largest size flash card you have successfully used in you nav fit? Did you have any issues with it? Any tips?

Would you also list the type and the model?

Thanks.

I've got a 16 gig in mine right now...no issues other than scrolling through all those songs is a pain in the rear.

Just make sure you format it FAT32...otherwise it won't be recognized. Also, if you are thinking of making directories to keep your music separated, forget it...any folder on the card that does not directly contain music will be ignored.

thanks Satchel. what brand is that card? is it sdhc or compact flash?

i did a quick test with my 32gb cf last night. it had a couple of folders where i didn't have any music in the root nor in the first top level folder and was getting "media error" message. i will try this without folders tonight.

64GB in a non-navi. Transcend JetFlash, FAT 32. No problems beyond the well-documented issue of getting to the 'Z's when you're in the 'A's.

thanks Malice, that will be very helpful once I get this card properly recognized.

i am still getting this "media error" message even with a couple of mp3 in the root folder and without any folders at all. i am starting to think that this (pretty high rated) 32gb kingston card that I got is the problem for the nav unit. btw, it formats/reads/writes fine in my usb and pc card adapters.

i guess i will be returning this and getting the adata one.

thanks.

It should be able to handle any size of CF as long that it is in correct format.

Has anybody had any other success with compact flash cards?

I tried a 4GB Kingston, and I get a media error, despite it working with my computer and camera.

It worked with a 2GB PNY CF card, but the card is bad (it randomly loses files from my camera, and my PC won't read it).

There is this thread on PC card readers, but nothing specific about what CF cards work .

Any other ones that are known working? And I'm curious about CF in particular on the Navi systems. Thanks!

i've returned the kingston 32GB one due to the media errors and in the meantime using my small 512MB Sandisk without any issues. I have been meaning to get a different brand larger CF but been to busy lately. I will be getting one soon though and will post my findings.

Sorry to bump an old thread, but I just wanted to update with a working card I found. I just bought a 2gb Sandisk Ultra CF card from Staples which works. I should be able to get ~200 songs on that, which is plenty -- I have my iPod for longer trips anyway.

The reason why I'm looking into PC cards specifically, instead of USB drives, is because the navigation system has several features with the PC card that it doesn't have with USB:

1) Voice commands work with PC card, but not with USB
2) There's a search command for the PC card (i.e. you can type in part of the title/artist and it'll pull up a list of matches)
2a) Related to the above, scrolling is kind of slow and annoying with the navigation system (it only presents 10 songs at a time, and it's just slow at pulling up the song info off USB). So without a search function, trying to find a song is pretty difficult.
3) The PC card fits inside the nav system, so there's nothing hanging loose in your glove box.

FYI, according to page 159 of the 2009 Fit owner's manual, "The card limit
of the player is 255 folders and 999 tracks."

I haven't tested this myself; has anyone had any experience (positive or negative) with using a PCMCIA card with more than 999 files? In contrast, page 178 says, "The USB flash memory device limit is up to 700 folders or up to 65535 files."
