Removing plastic trim for trailer hitch wiring

Hello everyone. 2009 Fit. Does anyone know how to remove the long black plastic trim piece that you see directly down after you open the rear hatch (the one that has the striker plate for the hatch in the middle of it)? I would like to remove it to run a wiring harness for a trailer. I have pulled straight up and the bottom of the sides came loose (tabs), but the top (the part along the weatherstripping for the hatch) is still tight and doesn't seem to respond to a reasonable amount of pulling. Please don't say "just pull up on it"... We all know what that results in!! Thanks!!

Thanks. Do you pull forward (toward the front of the car), or up (vertical)? Do you have to remove the weatherstripping first? If so, how do you do that (just pull out)?

Sorry for so many questions, but the car has like 500 miles... I don't want to break stuff. BTW.. the trailer is tiny.. one kayak.
