What's your AVG MPG currently? Mine is on the high side by about 5mpg but I average about 37mpg. Being off 10-15% at 40mpg is an error of 4-6mpg which is about where I'm at. Anyone down around 30mpg, would only be a difference of 3-4.5mpg.

Mine actually underestimates now.

With my city driving I average 29 mpg. My gauge reads 30- 31, at most. The only time I see a higher number on the gauge is when I throw in a highway trip. That gets the gauge up in the 34-35 range and it will stay up there over the course of the tank, even when finishing out with city driving. But all city, it has a hard time climbing to 32 and mostly flerts at 31...usually 30.4. That's pretty darn close to reality. It's interesting to me to see people getting wildy high gauge readings. I'm curious as to why some have suffered badly from this, while I haven't. I'm sure there are others like me, but I don't know. And I supoose you can say yeah, but my gauge isn't right on either- but it's a LOT closer, consistantly.

What month was yours built? Mine was a July baby (cancer? Leo?). The alignment of the stars probably has a lot to do with it...

 

checked with dealer there main frame is up too date,my 09 already has 09-083 done
still high on mpg by 6/8 they are going too check tech rep friday of this week hope i will here something of value.

first fill up with the software fix.

i put 8.1 gallons of gas in the car.

mpg monitor said 31.3 mpg.

hand calculated 30.7

error of 6/10ths of a mile.

 

less than 2% error. That's easily attributable to different amounts of fill from the gas pump cutting off at slightly different amounts each time.

 

that's a good point. i filled at the same station...probably a different pump. can't remember. but it's splitting hairs at this point.

before the fix i filled the tank about 50 times and always got between 3.3 and 4.4 mpg higher than reality.

 

I LIKE the positive slant of the MGP indicator! Friends think this is an amazing car seeing it read such high MPG, and still being so much fun to drive. Mine is not too far off the mark. It is an amazing little car, and gas mileage is Great. The positive slant of the gauge just makes it look even better!

I don't plan on getting the update.

It's nice to imagine the fit would get that kind of economy but I like to know what's actually going on. The Overestimating gets annoying real quick in my opinion. It's like having your head in the sand. I'll deal with it until the car needs service but at that time, I'm getting the update.

mistake on my part .09-086 was the tsp already in my car that did not correct the mpg,according too dealer. dont under stand it if tsp did not come out until 11/18/09.
said it was in from a previous problem, but that was last year. in fairness they are still look into it.

1st tank after flash:

calculated: 32.5; information display: 33.3 difference 0.8 or 2.5% high.

Varied driving over the 8 days, 1st four days short trips averaging about 25mpg, then normal commute brought it up to 33mpg.

Much more accurate; I'll continue to check for a few tanks and then stop obsessing probably...

 

New car, first fill up by me:

calculated: 35.7; information display: 36.8 difference 1.1 or 3% high

I had the software upgrade done this week. On a half tank fill, after roughly 40/40/20 city/highway/mountain driving, the gauge said 31.8, and I calculated 33.0 mpg. Even though I tried to fill to the same point, it was a different station, so this is probably within the margin of error, especially since it was only a half tank.

Prior to the upgrade, calculated mileage was always at least ~10% lower than displayed. I sort of miss the illusion of better gas mileage, but I prefer reality to fantasy.

 

I just got my first fill-up after the fix. Indicated 36.2 mpg. Actual 36.2 mpg. Can
t get much better than perfect. Kudos to Honda for 2 things: Addressing the problem, and fixing it so well. Guess I'll stick with Honda in the future. Sure beats the service I get from GM on my Solstice.

 

I have bad news... I have continued tracking the 'updated' gauge monitor accuracy, and even though the first fuel-up showed extreme accuracy, the subsequent ones have been off by as much as 6%. Better than 10-15%, but still unacceptable imho. Not only is it off now, but it is not even consistenty off by the same percent (or absolute) amount...

The Fit is notoriously difficult to get a consistent fill; I'm guessing that over ten tanks, you will see the two figures converge. In my experience, calculated gas mileage on any one tank has a potential operator error rate of +-5%. Before the fix, my gauge never read lower than the calculated MPG; after, it's been both above and below.

 

I have a feeling from what I've read of others' experiences that the computer is going to be pretty close to accurate. before the update, there were two problems; the biggest problem was that the computer was ALWAYS miscalculating economy so there was never any chance of it being accurate. The secondary issue was that not all gas pumps fill the same (not controllable by Honda). Now the computer is accurate and the only place for error is with the pump. This will be the same for any car that shows avg economy. As stated, with time, i have a feeling that your AVG calculated MPG will match the average that the computer displays (over the same number of tanks.) The only time the two will really be close on a regular basis is if you fill up at the exact same pump (and there has been no change in the pump aka maintenance.) close is the best we can ask for and 1-2mpg off is acceptable. 4-6mpg off is/(was) not.
