hey a while back i joined this site bc i was on the market for a honda fit sport...well long story short i bought a 2009 civic si coupe bc i thought it was "cooler" its obviously faster and i got a good deal.....well now im having second thoughts...the transmission is not the best...and the gas mileag is alot worse than my last car.....my question is.......would it be possible for me to trade my si in towards a 2010 fit sport and not lose a ton of money?

my car has 4k on it and i owe about 14k...id really appreciate some help......

At least you will be in good company. I know lots of D-Bags that drive Si's. Only cool kids drive Fits. Way to switch to the winning team...except in drag races, and power, and aftermarket support...well everything really. But we get good gas milage.

 

first of all..you should of test drove both car and thought about your decision before buying the civic. yes the civic costs more, so trading it in will not cost you any money and may even benefit you in putting more down on the fit cuz the civic si is worth more...but regardless, you lost at least 4-5k once you driven the car off the lot.

secondly, i hear good things about the manual tranny on the civic si...very similar to the s2000. if you think that's bad, then you should definitely think about the fit 5spd..becuase the fit's 5spd isnt the best to some ppl...some ppl complain that it's quite hard to drive smoothly on it.

mileage is a given. even the window sticker tells you the mileage is worst than a fit...but you're also comparing apples to oranges...civic si wasnt meant for a econ-type car...it was meant for sport and high revving with the k20 engine. the fit's 1.5 is focus on eco-friendliness...but i tell you one thing though..the fit's engine is very preppy.

all in all, i would see if the tranny and gas mileage really bothers u that much. some ppl dont care about the mileage because they are having so much fun with the civic's handling. also, will you be comfortable drving a hatchback over a coupe? and the fit's handling compare to hte civic si's is not that great.

but fitfreak is a better forum than the civic si's. hahaha

 

It depends, I like the 4 door SI, but the Fit it just so much more practical. Yea, it won't get win any races, but i have a real car for that (and it get about 10mpg and requires ALOT of maintence).

I'm sure you could be able to trade. I'd try out a few places and see what happens.

i totally agree. i can count on one hand the amount of people who drive si's (new ones) that are NOT douchebags.

 

I test drove a new Civic Si a couple of weeks ago. It was a nice driving car, and I was impressed. Boy am I glad I didn't succumb to the temptation. I don't want to be a douchebag!

 

The only thing that might hurt is if Honda has 2.9% financing on new 09 Si's on their lot.

Go to kelley blue book, feed in all the trade in info and see where you are at.
I think you might be fine if your dealer is reasonable. Some of them are not, they try and steal your trade in.

 

I wouldn't do it. I like the Si very much, and I would have purchased one instead of the Fit if there was such a thing as an Si hatchback. They sell it overseas but not here. So the Fit won out for the practicality. Plus it's a blast to drive and of course the gas mileage is fantastic.

All that being said, you have a brand new car and unless there is some pressing need to get out of the Si it doesn't make good financial sense to trade a one year old car. I have heard the Si transmission is the best on the market, so I find it hard to believe your claim. Plus the gas mileage can be very good unless you're redlining it everywhere you go, which I suppose would tempting with that engine. But still, you have a brand new, lots of people driving around old beaters with no A/C would love to have your car. Keep it, enjoy it, and remember, sometimes the grass is not always greener on the other side.

 

In terms of green, is the Fit not 'greener'?

No harm in investigating, in my opinion. A new car is a big chunk of money and a long loan period. You should be completely happy. I've had the same trade-in thought too, only I was wanting to trade my '09 Fit sport for a navi sport. But I've come to terms that the hassle isn't worth it for me. I'm loving my sport, non-navi and all!

If you really want out of your SI for a Fit Sport, post a Wanted To Trade in the classified section for what you want. Hopefully you would be able to lose the least amount of money that way.

 

I have 2007 Civic Si MT/NAV Sedan and 2009 Honda FIT Sport AT/NAV/VSA. I like both of them. However, I prefer to drive FIT to work as daily driving.

 

In the car bidness, they call it 'getting upside down'. It happened a lot when gas went nuts and guys were dumping new, thirsty pickups for something else; sometimes the depreciation is so great that what you end up with is worth less than the loan outstanding against it.
So, that said, do your homework as regards a trade or swap, and look at the numbers. Then make you decision.
My gut feeling? Wait a couple three years.

I thought about the civic si, but decided on the fit. For the price though I figured that I could get a fit sport, then add a aftermarket supercharger when it comes out for the 09-10 fits. With the extra money to save you could upgrade tires, exhaust, etc. and would close the gap in performance. $6k of upgrades would give you an easy 45-50hp.

 

Yeah, if you really want to trade, just keep going to one dealer after another. I did, and all of them gave me a bum offer...till I hit the one I bought from, and he was over $3,000 less than the others after trade and reduced purchase price below sticker was all figured in. You just never know. Just keep hitting the dealers and wait for the deal you want. Otherwise, be real happy with the Si. I sure would be.

 

Keep in mind you will have to pay taxes again. You owe 14k, what is your current interest rate? How many periods left? How would you finance the new Fit? What rate can you get for the Fit? You need to find out what the dealership will give you for the civic.
