Has anyone...

thought about trading in there Fit for a Civic Si (fa5) or know anyone who has already? i love my fit but im beginning to have a 'performance itch'. i received a letter in the mail from the dealership asking for my 09 BBP Fit Sport back b/c its in high demand and that i can get any 2010/11 or pre-owned vehicle as well as a $1000 voucher toward the new car on top of whatever extra cash i get back...should i go for it?

Up to you. Do what makes you happy. I tried to trade in my Fit for a Si Sedan but due to not having enough credit or anything down they turned me down. I wasnt surprised tho. So instead i just sold my Nice wheels and bought a side project to go fast in and keep my reliable daily, my Honda Fit.

They are so different. If you only need the speed, and for some reason, like the styling and image of the civic, then go for it. I wouldn't. To me, the civic is too common, and blah, but I'm sure they are fun to drive. The fact that your dealership is calling to get the car back should tell you something. Civics are a dime a dozen, and the Fit is probably going to be the better investment no matter what. If you trade in, there will be hits to your equity. Look up insurance differences as well.

you realize they just sent you that notice so they can get you for more loot. trade in value will suck and they dont do good deals on si's. best of luck to you though.

be a G and do a k-swap in the fit, lighter than the civic si X:

"The fact that your dealership is calling to get the car back should tell you something" - this is so true, my thoughts exactly. for that reason i dont want to give up my car but i just want something more. my fit is auto (i know i should have got manual) and boring to drive now. i dont have that excited feeling when i get into my car anymore just the odd time where i think my car looks sick. i drove my friends civic yesterday and its manual and it was fun to drive!

yes thats true but i think im willing to spend more for a better engine and manual trans. and of course a few personal preferrences from the Si

i wish it was that easy to do a k-swap but i dont think ppl here in america have started trying which makes me wonder how long will that take...but for a definite answer this ones most likely out of the question

I got that same letter from my dealer a few years back. Decided to find out about it and the sales guy said it's not really true, just a marketing gimmick. Had him value the Integra GS-R and they low-balled me. interestingly enough, was looking at an Si at the time. Ended up a year later with an altima as the trade was MUCH better.

Gimmick...

As for the Si. if you are ready to move up and can do so financially, it's a NICE car. You might want to wait for the '12 model year redesign unless you can get a good deal on a '10 or '11. I'd still love to get and Si but it's not in the cards for us.

Remember, the payments will be higher, the insurance will be higher, but so will the fun.

Got the same letter for our 07 TSX. Trust me its a marketing gimmick.
We get them every year.
If you want an SI privately sell your Fit then buy a slightly used SI. You will be much better off.

If i was offered a deal like that by my dealership i'd go in and try to get everything out of them as possible. Free tint, floor mats, maybe HFP wheels on the fa5. I would love a civic Si over my fit.

Even though i've put a lot of time and work and money into the fit it'd be fun to have a new faster car and a new platform to mod.

Civic Si's are faster than our Fit's, but they're still not fast. I agree with the first poster. If you can, buy a side car to be your dedicated performance car and keep your reliable Honda Fit daily

I agree! My 260hp 232tq CL type S was not even fast by today standards. That thing would stomp new stock SI's too. Pretty dead even with stock S2's though. When v6's are now coming with 300+ hp your best bet to get a "fast" 4 cylinder is a turboed one (with a few upgrades )

Given that by Fast, the OP is talking about acceleration, these statements are both correct. If the OP prefers to use Fast as referencing handling and maintaining speed through the "twisties" i'd have to disagree. much Like the NS-X was no Power-monster, it ruled the road for many years with modest power increases because of the balance and handling. My altima had 270hp and when I stomped on it, it would move. Kept up fine with the local Si, only because I could catch up in the straight-aways and gentle corners. in the hard corners, the 3.5SE just didn't have the balance of the Si.

If i had the option for an Si Sedan at this point, I'd be all over it. But for me right now, the Fit meets all of my needs (Financially, sportiness, and Economy-wise.)

my fit is an 09 BBP

thats exactly what i want a 4 door Si / 6 speed trans.

im not really good at negotiating but now that i kinda have an idea after getting my Fit i could try squeezing things out of them. I'm the guy who just wants it and will settle - 'just give me the keys' kinda guy

At least you are self aware. A sales guy would love to put you in the seat of a new Si and if it suits you, (and it's not going to financially cause you any issue), check into it. if you can wait a little bit, put the fit on the market for sale instead of trade and when it sells, Then get your Si. the more cash you are willing to put down, the more of a deal they'll make you. My dealer had a Mugen Si that sat in the showroom for Months... probably 6+ as they just couldn't move it. i mentioned "Nice Car... wouldn't mind it" and he said, I'll make a GOOOD deal on it. I wish I could have but that wasn't going to happen.
