Is the fit really an 90 civic si?

I have owned many hondas throughout the years, 8 to be exact (2 crx, 3 civic hatches, 2 integras, and a fit). I have always wanted an 89 civic si and I got to looking at the specs. Very interesting
90 Honda Civic Si
Length: 157.1
Width: 66.3
Wheelbase: 98.4
Curb Weight: 2291
0 to 60: 8.1
Hp: 108 Tq: 100

Now compare these with the new fit sport
09 Honda Fit Sport
Length: 161.6
Width: 66.7
Wheelbase: 98.4
Curb Weight: 2489
0 to 60: 8.3
Hp: 117 Tq: 106

I'm simply pointing out that the recipe for the fit is rooted in one of the funnest hondas of all time. I'm happy with the purchase of my blue sensation fit sport, and by no means am I complaining. Do you think this was the easy way out by honda to design an economy car on an old concept or honda returning to a solid recipe for success?

Very interesting comparison. Certainly a good pedigree.

Dude how can you compare cars that are not even in the same class? Also comparing a new car to a car almost 2 decades old and saying that the other maybe is the new version of the other. No offense intended. You must be bored

I`ve owned two EF hatches and the FiT is very similar in many ways.

It might be simply "if the size fits, wear it".

Enough of everything, but not too much. Size as in "Si(ze)" and fits as in "FIT(s)"

Wide enough, long enough, tall enough to seat people comfortably without cramming them in, or being TOO large for just one or two people to own.

For instance, there are plenty of larger cars, but I might not buy a HUGE car, even for the same price, because there's just me. I wouldn't buy a passenger van, for instance. Or a Surburban. LOL!

Enough power to be peppy, without overkill. It's not a car made for towing yachts. But it will get going enough to get over hills.

It's good looking, so you aren't ashamed to be in it...but not so good looking that you have to dress up for your car. Or not drive it when your hair is messy or your clothes are a tad wrinkled.

It's JUST RIGHT for living.

It can be dressed up. It can be a work horse. It can be a daily driver or a show car. That's what makes this car and it's size so successful (I think). It's what people needed AND wanted then and it's STILL what people need and want now.

The MAJOR improvement is that the vehicle now has a more practical aspect with 4 doors and the hatch. I would not have bought a 2-door with back seats, as the back seats would have been too inaccessible for me. Even with the back seat folded down, the area right behind the driver is not accessible easily (it requires twisting while being bent, and that is disaster for my back).

Notice though that the mpg has improved with the new model and the pollution cut in half at least. Those two things are wonderful improvements.

Fit for the win! Honda ftw actually. Theyve really hit the jackpot with the new Fit. Although I wish it was a little more powerful but hey hp doesnt sell cars anymore... look at dodge

Although with Honda retiring the S2000 this year I hope they come out with a new performance flagship, to let others know Honda can still build a monster of a car.

+1

Heres hoping that honda will bring the Civic Type R or a revised Si for 2011/2012.

Hopefully the new NSX fills in the gap at the very top end and compete with the GT-R. I think honda should make a more performance oriented fit (at least put the R18 motor or a detuned k20 in the bay). I know you can't do much with the standard civic motor, but it will at least provide more power with only a small hit on fuel economy. Of course if they add a 6 speed and the increased torque from a higher performance motor, they could actual get the same gas mileage without taching 3500 rpm at 70mph! I'm sure honda has something up their sleeve to replace the S2000.

Lol, this is exactley what came to mind when I test drove the 09 Fit Sport. It was the 1990 Civic Si in spirit.

Length: 157.4 vs 157.1 vs 161.6
Width: 66.2 vs 66.3 vs 66.7
Wheelbase: 95.6 vs 98.4 vs 98.4
Curb Weight: 2471 vs 2291 vs 2489

(varies by source)
Hp: 109 vs 108 vs 117
Tq: 105 vs 100 vs 106

I think the '07-'08 Fits are a bit more like the '90 Si than the '09 Fit is, especially where dimensions and engine power are concerned. But meh, close enough! =D
