... for my winter tire package from tirerack. Do the specs below look fine for my stock 09 Fit Sport?.... my biggest concern is will a 6.5 tire work with a 175/65-15 tire???? I think the rim may be too wide... i assume offset etc is fine since the overall size is similar... any advice will be helpful, there is already a good amount of snow on the ground

175 seems okay as far as fitment goes...it's pushing the limit though.

Isn't a thinner tire better for snow and ice? Maybe that's why they recommend 175s. Could be wrong - correct me if I am

I was observing WRC rally cars' extreme studded ice-use tires used for Rally Sweden. They resembled bicycle tires more than anything else - that's how narrow they were

 

Narrower is better for snow/ice. That fitment should be fine. The tires will be slightly stretched on there so you'll have to be careful of curbs and such.

Here is my base Fit with the stock 175/65/15 tires on 6 inch rims. 6.5 shouldn't be much worse.



What do you plan to do with the TPMS? Just deal with the light in the winter?

 

No TPMS on Canadian Fits, so I dont have that problem.... so it looks like 175 is a stretch on the 6.5 but it should work........ but makes me wonder if its worth it with all the pot holes etc in the winter, sounds like a risk... hmmm, I would like to stick with the 175 tires for the winter

 

I ordered the 175s on 6.5s from Tirerack since their site said it was ok. I got a call a few hours later from them (the sales guy was a Fit owner) saying that I really shouldn't do that, despite their website recommending it. They had me switch to a 185/60 and said the slight difference (~1%, I think) in diameter was much less of an issue than putting them on rims that were too wide. It saved me money and the advice made sense.

 

You guys lucked out there. The TPMS really makes it difficult to easily switch rims and have it work.

It's not ideal that's for sure. When I need new tires I'll switch to 195/60/15s (not snows though). Those wheels I show are only 6 inches wide so 6.5 will be a bit worse. Mine seem to be fine on the 6 inch rims but there is very little protection on the sides.

If you want to have alloys there are lots of 15X6 Honda rims out there that will fit or maybe find some steelies? Some canadian LX Fit (Insight) rims would probably be narrower as well.

 

The stock DX steelies are 5.5" wide but there are also aftermarket 6" wide steelies for even less cash.

IMO the 6.5" are too wide for those tires and is just asking for trouble.

 

Anytime the tire section is greater than the rim width fitment is OK though it means higher pressure to 'flatten out' the tread. In your case 175mm is 6.88" which is greater than 6.5. 15x7 of course is better. I'd be more worried about the 42mm offset getting a bit close to the fender lip.
PS with a back space of 5.31" thats an offset of 5.31-3.25 = 2.06", or 52mm. That'\ll work. If they include the 1/2"rim flange flair out that would mean a 1.56" offset, or 40 mm offset.. Thats a problem.
