Crazy Buy Offer On My Fit!
If you can live with an auto trans go for it. Or if you're lucky enough to find another standard and then go aftermarket with the nav system, all the better.
But if you resort to sleazoid used-car dealer tactics (ie: "How badly do you want this car??" --- asked with a big shit-eating grin) and up the ante on him after dragging him and his daughter to come out for a look things are likely to backfire.
Nobody likes being on the receiving end of those games. Even if the guy is a sleaze himself, and even if his pockets are deeper than the Marianas Trench he'll reward you by walking away and explaining to his daughter what a bottom-feeder he thinks you are. Then he'll search farther and wider for the car she wants, and just for spite give the person who doesn't play games even more than you were holding out for.
If you really are sitting on the fence over this, here's what I'd do: Tell him, "Thanks, and I do think your offer is generous. But I'm concerned about whether I really want to go with an automatic, since manuals are hard to come by." Then wait for him to up the ante. If he does, great. If not, wish him the best of luck in his search.
After the call ends, shrug it off. If he calls back with a counter, the deal's a go. If not, it was never meant to be. And you still have a standard with nav.

FIRST FIND ANOTHER MANUAL! With all of these threads popping up about manuals being scarce these days I would walk into another dealership and have them locate you another manual before you sell. Just in case you sell your manual but can't find another manual in town.
LOL! You guys are great, great replies. I'm really torn but I'm leaning towards selling it. If I sell it though I probably would not buy another Honda Fit because the only model I really wanted myself was the navi/manual transmission combo. So I can't get that anymore.
It is an amazing deal, and I'm going to take your guys advice and try to squeeze him for an extra $1,000. I have a feeling if I told him I would sell it for $20K right on the spot he would go for it. And yes, I do have a girlfriend right now and I told her about what happened and she said "Well if you sell the car I want to be there with you when he picks it up with his 18 year old daughter!" LOL, she is already getting jealous, so no go on picking up the guy's daughter.
Well, I'll post back when I've made my decision. I was thinking about it on my drive to work and man I love this little car, it will be very difficult to sell it, but if he gives me $20K I think I will do it. Unfortunately that means buying another car and leaving Fitfreak.
I love this place and the enthusiasm we all share for this little car. I have no idea what other car I would buy either. There is nothing else in the price range of the Fit that can touch it. Maybe I'll buy one of those Mazda 3 hatchbacks, those are real nice.

I would sell it not messing with the price.
you will be a years depreciation advantage getting a 2010. Then when you trade the 2010 in on the newly redesigned GF 12 or 13 Honda Fit that has 130 HP and higher MPG you will be perhaps around $1500 ahead of the game.

There is no deal. There was an offer, but no deal. Don't be surprised if circumstances have changed if you call him back. Personally, I wouldn't sell. Buying a new car is frankly, a pain in the ass. A grand isn't worth the a complete hassle of selling/buying. But that's me. Good luck to you!

Don't mess with him; he's already made you an offer well over what you have in the car.The economy is still bad, and dealers will be getting itchy to make deals on most cars by the end of January. The only question is: what will you do for transportation between cars?
I say keep the car.
You love your Fit and you already know they are darn near impossible to find.
Also, from what I am reading, I believe you to be a young guy and it is also my impression this may be your first car.....or at least first new car. So, coming from an "older guy", here's my advise: You will always regret and miss selling your first car. Here's your chance to not become like the rest of us!!
Keep the car!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

You'll be paying sales tax again, fees, an extra year of higher insurance premiums, and you'll be paying potentially another year of higher tag prices, depending on your state. Is it worth the trouble to (maybe) make a small profit and get the same car again?
And, as others said, this may not pan out anyway. I used to have a near classic car in very good condition, and I'd get parking lot offers now and then. Especially at Jimmy John's, lol. They never panned out, people never returned my calls, or never called me back to take it to the next level. Even Benz drivers. I'm guessing reality kicked in when they thought over the potential problems of owning a 20+ year old car. I ended up driving it until the wheels were falling off and clunkered it instead. Selling a car sucks.

So the bottom line is I've decided not to sell. I really don't need the $1,000 and I love the car, period. There is nothing else like it on the road. Now that Honda has made the decision to eliminate the navi/manual transmission combo I don't have the option of buying a new one like that. Plus buying new cars is a pain in the butt and I'm looking forward to not having to do that again for many years.
So fellow Fitfreaks, I'm not going anywhere. Not only am I not leaving, but I'm going to buy these with my yearly bonus check (paid at the end of next month):
Enkei Racing RPF1 Black Painted
I would say that you are a wise young man with a good head on your shoulders. Although I said sell the car, I think this is the right decision for you. Many situations don't have a "right" answer. Some people here would feel better selling the car if in your shoes and others would feel better keeping it. Clearly, you are in the latter camp. The key is to do what makes you happy and have no regrets and I think you have accomplished that. Now enjoy your Fit and don't give this another moment's thought.

I would take the mans offer and smile all the way to the bank. Guys, it's just a Honda Fit, a fairly poor excuse for an automobile if I say so myself.
If someone offered me a deal like this I would be walking home as well...

Such an amazing deal. I love my car and i love that it's a honda fit but for that amount of money. I mean more then you paid!! Did you think you could buy this car and then come out of debt and make money off of it? I would take the deal go get a GD3 for cheap put an aftermarket system in it and use the rest to put into the car payments.
The guy has decided to keep the car and has used very sound reasoning, IMO. And I am one who said originally to sell. The decision is right for HIM. Trying to get a MT Fit is a PIA. Now you narrow it down to a popular color and you have a real job on your hands--not to mention that his has the factory Navi and thus is no longer available. He makes good money and figures why trade a car he loves only to spend his time trying to recreate it for a small profit when he can make that $$$ in less time spent at work? He has also said he can afford a more expensive car but would prefer the Fit so trading up is not really an issue here.
So let's be happy for the dude and just leave it at that. It's pretty irrelevant what we'd do because nobody offered us the deal.
