4 bulbs in 1 year..whats going ?

I've had my 2009 honda fit for 1 year and have 31k on it. in that time I have had to replace:

1 sylvania headlight
1 oem headlight
1 aftermarket yello fog light
1 tail light

Is this normal for the miles I drive....any solutions or recommendations.

The original bulbs were warranty items (at least they aren't excluded like filters and wiper blades under "expendable items).

I'd check with the dealer. Besides replacing bulbs they should check your electrical system for high voltage.

maybe normal maybe not.
do you drive around with your lights on
all the time? this is a big factor. also DRL
doesn't help with bulb life.

I would get hold of a good voltmeter and check battery voltage when the engine is running. It should be no higher that 14.1 volts or thereabouts. High voltage translates into reduced bulb life.

Sounds typical for a...Volkswagen. Odd to see this in a Japanese car on the factory bulbs. Do you drive on a lot of bumpy roads?

I drive alot

500 miles a week sometimes and yes I drive in NYC, and nowadays I've noticed most the roads I drive on in NY and NJ are pretty much crap.

I understand the fog and the sylvania's burning out since their life expectancy is short, but the tail?

Anyway given my driving style should I upgrade to HID's?

NO! Then you have expensive bulbs to replace soon. I notice you have had other bulbs in the car, a previous respondee mentioned not touching the bulb glass. Oils concentrate the heat and blow bulbs rapidly.

Additionally, aftermarket bulbs frequently have a greatly shortened life. The Silverstars and Ultras even say on their packaging that they have short life, anectotally 6 months to a year.

Lastly, your driving conditions would greatly decrease bulb life, especially if the bulbs are lit during the road-pounding drives through NYC.
