OEM Windshield Manufacturer?
#3
It's my understanding that car makers don't actually manufacture their glass, but contract another company to provide it for them.
What Type of Auto Glass Should I BuyDealer, OEM, or Aftermarket? - Glass.net
Just wondering who Honda contracted for the '09 windshields, and if it matters that I get the same brand when doing a replacement.

Go with the cheapest you can get, the dealer charges $500-600 installed, good glass, but all these aftermarket glass are soft and chip very easily, but cost about $140 installed, ppg, safelite, guardian, etc
You can also choose your tint color, and glare strip already in the windshield.
I got the blue tint, with the glare strip. they also had brown, smoke, & green!

If this is going to be an insurance claim, I believe by law, if the vehicle is 1 year old and has "X" amount of mileage, they HAVE TO put in OEM glass (front or side) and it cannot be aftermarket. This is the way it is in Massachusetts anyway. Look into it...

Thankfully, the body shop brought it (the law) to my attention.

I have an appointment set up for this Tuesday with Safelite to install an aftermarket windshield for my 09 Fit sport.
I'm concerned that it won't have the same tint as the rest of the windows. Is it possible for them to get it to match?

i suggest you call the place where you are planning on getting the work done, and then ask them what your options and which ones in their opinion are better or worse.
They can probably obtain most any glass upon request.
Point is, it doesn't hurt to ask the experts in the field, as they probably know which ones are good and which are cheap. If they are a legitimate well-respected company; they want a win-win relationship. They aren't trying to hide industry secrets from you. They want you to be satisfied at a fair price.

I had my windshield replaced through Safelite for around $300. The brand was PGW. I failed to notice any difference between oem and aftermarket. So if you don't mind the glass not having a honda logo, save yourself a couple hundred bucks.
