2010 Sport/Navi Accessory Issues

CAR: 2010 Sport / Navi (new)

Two questions:

1. Has anyone installed an auto dimming/compass/temp rearview windshield mirror? Our local dealer says they can't although they regularly install those mirrors on other Honda models.

2. To prevent stone chips on the nose, do you recommend a vinyl bra (vibrate against the paint?) or the so-called invisible mask (deteriorate from sun?)?

As a new owner, I appreciate advice from you experienced owners.

Thank you,
Terry

Can't answer the first question; although Honda doesn't make such a mirror for the Fit, there's a number of aftermarket ones that should work...

As for the second, the vinyl bras require some care -- you need to take it off occasionally to clean under it, and if any dirt gets in there it'll scratch the paint, plus if you leave it on a long time, there's the possibility that the paint won't fade evenly under the bra.

The clear plastic bras don't have those problems, though they are a bit more expensive. If you use a high quality plastic, they generally won't yellow or deteriorate for a few years. For example, 3M warranties their film for 5 years (see FAQs); after 5 years, maybe you won't be so concerned about paint chips anymore .

There's some additional discussion in this thread: https://www.fitfreak.net/forums/2nd-...nose-mask.html

Personally, I went with a clear bra I installed myself, though I messed it the installation . And while my hood is free from rock chips, I just got rock chips where the clear bra wasn't applied -- I've got one on the A pillar and another on the top edge of one of the fenders .

1. get a gentex i think they are called. mirror. does it does it all.

2. get the clear 3m bra. it's good if you get lots of rocks on your
roads.

if you want more info do a search. i know for sure there are mirror
topics about the same exact mirror.
also the clear film has been discussed also.
search is your friend.
oh and welcome to the forum

Mirror Links:

Gentex Corporation :: Automotive :: Product Line Overview

Amazon.com: Gentex auto-dimming mirror

Amazon.com: CIPA auto-dimming mirror

There are other places to buy these... I just posted the Amazon links so you could look at them. Check around for pricing. I found a homepage for the Gentex stuff, but I couldn't find a proper homepage for the CIPA mirrors.

I've heard good things about both. My personal preference is Gentex... and will be installing those shortly after picking up my Fit. Both are supposedly good. I just prefer the look and styling of the Gentex stuff.

Bra/Mask Alternate:

I would go for the invisible mask between those two choices. Make sure you find an installer that knows what they're doing for the clear mask... unless you're doing it yourself. I've heard from peeps here it's not exactly easy though.

You may also try this... it's what I'm going for. I think they look pretty cool too:

Hey, I'm right there with you. I've only been coming here for a short while myself. This place is wonderful for, not only info relating to the Fit, but a wealth of other auto-related information.

Enjoy!

Great comments and links. Will research the links and search the data base this afternoon ... time to take 8-yr old grandson for a day's outing to Natural Bridge Caverns.

Think we'll take the Sport (total 69 miles) vs the 2006 RAV4.
