What are your Insurance Rates...?
I should clarify- if I don't like a QUOTE I'm gone. When I choose a carrier, I typically stick around. I went through a couple of used cars over the last three years before the Fit and it was then that I realized how much I was overpaying for LIABILITY only, from Metropolitan, who I had for ions, btw. So much for long term commitment. They gave me a ridiculous quote for the Fit. Geico came in very well. I have a friend who has a great relationship with his agent and I do agree, there are perks to that. But it usually seems like people who NEED the perks go for that. I've never felt the need for personal, chummy relations with car insurance. I pay on time and stay out of trouble. I'm little more than a trouble free customer to bill, for them. If and when I need them, I certainly hope they'll come through for me. But places like Geico- you're just a number. Doesn't bother me though. Just another bill.

$1101 / 6 months with $500 deductible... But then I totaled 2 cars and got 7 speeding tickets past 3 years... lol Oh yeah, I'm a young Asian guy so... yeah that bupms up my premium like 20% top of my bad driving records
Not trying to sound like a State Farm commercial - but we've had State Farm for years, and there have been unexpected benefits. For example, two years ago my wife slid on ice and rear-ended the car in front of her at low speed. It was very minor damage, but our agent told us they were willing to forgive that incident because of our history. Thus, we still have the accident free discount on both of our cars.
I can't say whether this is limited to State Farm, but all I'm saying is that price isn't everything and sometimes you get what you pay for. I knew going in that the Fit is relatively pricey to insure, because of the typical customer base.

Frankly, it's been tough for us. We have never been perceived as a cheap insurance company. 4 years ago that wasn't a problem because there were alot of customers out their willing to pay a premium (insurance pun?) for better insurance. Fast forward to today and all anybody cares about is price Price PRICE. I see too many customers carrying low liability limits, high deductibles, not getting the gold or platinum plan, and just getting the absolute minimum. 90% of customers today purchase based on price. We are working towards getting better prices but in the end if we take less money from the customer it can only end with us giving them back less when claim time comes.
Anyway, if anybody finds this useful, here is out ideal customer:
-5 years continuous STANDARD prior insurance with the same carrier (prior insurance is SO important- NEVER EVER LET YOUR INSURANCE LAPSE you could end up paying double for YEARS)
-Homeowner (Homeowner's pay alot less than renters - except in Cali)
-2 cars or more
-Good credit score (not because we care if you pay, but because people with bad credit file more claims, the numbers prove it and we can't ignore it - except in Cali)
-100/300 Prior bodily injury limits (so if you currently carry 15/30, 20/40, 25/50, 50/100, etc. and you want, say, 100/300 coverage, you will pay more for it than a person who has always carried 100/300)
-Lives in a low accident area (usually by zip code)
-Pays in full
-Pays through EZP automatic payments
-Good Payer (there's a discount for it)
-Sets up insurance at least a week in advance (high risk customers wait 'till the last minute to purchase)
-No accidents
-No tickets
-Older than 25 (55/older and retired is even better)
-Younger than 75
-Married
-Drives less than 7,500 miles a year (less than 12,000 in cali)
-Drives for work. Most of the time people who drive to work 10 miles or less one way have lower rates than those who drive for pleasure (so many people lie about this that we don't even give a discount for it anymore in some states)
-Licensed for at least 3 years

Gender is really only a big deal for drivers who are under 25 and unmarried. Usually only a 5% difference between genders after 25. As for the acceleration - it's not really a factor, we only care how many claims Fit drivers file on average compared to other vehicles.

I'm getting the s*** end of the stick as far as insurance premiums go then I suppose:
1,002 dollars every 6 months. I am 19 and live in a college town, but I haven't hit anything or have any driving tickets or any sort of violation. I need to start shopping again I suppose.

$371.00 for 6 months. 100,000-300,000-500,000- full comp-100 deduct collision. When you try to compare your insurance costs to someone else on the internet that's like asking how much do you spend on groceries! It depends on too many things. If you want the best rates, shop those companies in the area you live. That's the best way to compare rates.
Mine's roughly 150/mo. Full coverage, 500 deductible. It should go down though now that I'm 25. I've never had a speeding ticket or traffic infraction, but I'm on my mom's policy at the moment and she causes my rates to go up significantly. Oh well. After the week I had last week, I'm certainly glad to pay for it.
wow i remember paying outrageous insurance when i was younger and i drove a Pinto -LOL- i feel a little better about what i pay now after reading this thread - i pay 471 for 6 mo. = full cov. 500ded coll/ 100del comp
w/discount for multicar (crx stated value of $10,000) and renters ins.
total $130 mo. for all three - woot woot

After a whole lot of negotiating with my State Farm agent, I was able to get 95 Nissan Altima (liability only and counts as my primary car) = $209 for 6 months. '10 Fit Sport MT 377, full coverage with 500$ deductable.
Total $586 for both cars for 6 months. (Darn, higher than I thought).

We (my parents, my brother and I) recently combined all our cars on one policy to save a little money. Our total is about $300 per month for:
08 Honda Fit Sport (of course) - Full Coverage $500 deductible (me)
07 Honda Accord EX-L V6 - Full Coverage $250 deductible (mom)
09 Honda Civic Si Sedan - Full Coverage $1000 deductible (bro) (most expensive car, about $145/month)
98 Ford Explorer Limited V8 4x4 - Liability (dad)
02 Daewoo Leganza SX - Liability (my old car)
Between the 4 of us, only 2 tickets within the last 5 years (both were mine
), and 1 not at fault accident (mom)
Plus rental car coverage on all cars, and roadside assistance and towing on all cars except mine (yay hondacare!)
And I have the good student discount

2009 Honda fit with Navi
$1669 a year, 1 million 3rd party liability and $500 deductible.
I think insurance rates are expensive on the fit, because of the claims, with the bumper so close to the ground. if you get hit, there's more damage then a usual accident, plus 6 airbags.
here insurance is also based on the cost of number of claims on that vehicle.

It's odd, but when I bought the Fit, my insurance DROPPED by $300/year compared to my last car (a 2002 Dodge Neon SXT-same company & same coverage). The Neon is considered a high-risk car because there are a lot of young wannabe racers driving them around here.
The Neon is what the kids who can't afford a Honda drive, and that raises rates for everybody, or so I'm told.
Since I've owned the Fit, I had my first accident claim EVER, and hit a deer for the first time in 15 years, so God knows what I'm going to end up paying when I renew next month.
