Ford Fiesta, a Fit Killer?
I really like the Imprezza... Anyone that thinks the Fit is slow isn't going to like the imprezza.. The CVT is the way to go on one as it gets better fuel mileage and accelerates the best..
Well at the time I was getting my Fit, I was looking at other cars too, which were the Yaris, Versa, & Rio. My turbo PT was taking a dump on me every month, (still question why I bought that thing
.) The Yaris wasn't so bad, but I wanted a 4 door hatch instead of two. Could've looked at the xA. The Yaris felt kinda rental. The Versa was okay, but I don't think I would've lived with the intelligent key. The Rio was okay to drive, just okay. I didn't get to drive the SX4, well in a way I'm kinda glad I didn't get that. But when I got in the Fit, it just seemed the right choice, (my friend talked me into it also.) Sure it wasn't perfect, but what isn't. The rest was history, Goodbye PT loser

I'm sorry but the Fit is faster (arguable but I think it's true), handles better (IMO), looks better and is more practical. Plus it's not a Ford. Sorry Ford, you did a good job on the interior but all the bells and whistles don't make up for the transmission problems, oil problems, leaking fluids... etc. Still a Ford.
Tx Coyote: Yes, the CVTs are great. I have 3 CVTs (Civic HX, Audi A4, & Subie Outback). CVTs are very smooth & provide best combo of MPG & accceleration. Fit comes w a CVT elsewhere but not in the US. Not sure why we got 5 spd AT instead of CVT; methinks the Fit with a CVT would be a better performer in all categories.
Buttersandpaper: We have several PT Cruisers (non Turbo) for rental cars. We liked the comfort, they rode & handled reasonably well, & had very nice cargo layout & capacity. Thought about getting one several times but the poor reliablilty of Chrysler products always scared me away.
You just can't beat Honda's reliablilty - I have had 7 Hondas in my family starting in 1985, a number of them went 100-200+ K with no significant issues or major mechanical failures.
The Fiesta & other small hatches are improving, but have yet to match the Fit as an all around performer, Between reliability, utility, economy, & fun to drive the Fit is still King of the Subcompact hatches.

i read a lot of reviews before i got this car and saw that the Fit came 1st in it's class in many tests. I saw that the car that came closest to it was a Sonic LTZ Turbo hatch (which was the car we were originally gonna get)
I had a Fiesta for a week while my Escape's transmission was getting rebuilt for the 2nd time (35000 miles).
The Verdict?
Nope.
OK, the Sync is awesome (not the MyFord Touch). The steering wheel is nice and fat in the right places. That's it.
Downsides? I'd never buy the automatic but that dual clutch auto is awful. Gutless engine, tinny sounding doors, barely a big enough hatch to hold my 40lb dog, and cup holders that can't even hold a regular, ordinary travel mug from Starbucks.
And it looks stupid. Sorry. It does. The Fit looks better in every way.
Remember that I also had a 2012 Focus for 2 weeks prior to insisting the Ford dealer take it back when it simply died. Fortunately they still had my Escape. Too bad, loved the Focus in every way.
So, a fit is on the horizon. Just waiting for Honda Canada to put some incentives on it.

I just love it when I hear about the problems Fiesta owners are having. While Fit owners are complaigning about dash rattles and other minor things, Fiesta owners are F..... on-the-road-daily with leaking coolant and oil, tranny problems and other major issues.
Long live the FIT!
Amen. I don't hate on a lot of other cars but the whole Fiesta marketing strategy really rubbed me the wrong way. The way they used the Euro version on that stupid 'Fiesta Movement' marketing ploy, the stupid MoonCricket guy, the way it looks stupid but all the paid off reviewers couldn't stop gushing over the styling (nice attempt to copy the fit headlights but it looks horrible, and the chrome accents look cheap, tacky, and dated), the way you kept hearing it was faster to 60 in some articles but then in the real articles it was almost 2 seconds slower than the fit.

About the headlights. The general outline looks nothing like the Fit's. The interior layout is nothing like the Fit's. It uses a dual bulb setup (9005+H11B), while the Fit uses a single bulb (9003 aka H4).
I actually prefer the Fiesta's headlights. The Fit's are too "frog-eyed" for me. Which is why one of the first things I did when I got my Fit was buy a dual bulb headlight. Just like my Mirage when I had it. http://www.cardomain.com/ride/655670...-mirage/page-2
And in general, you can always accuse someone of copying someone else. The Fits basically look like mini-vans... and everytime I see a Mazda 5 it looks WAY to similar. Picture of a 2008 Mazda 5: Google Image Result for http://www.roadfly.com/new-cars/wp-content/uploads/gallery/2008-mazda5/2008-mazda5.jpg. Bumper layout looks a little like a GE Fit, doesn't it? And it came out BEFORE the GE did.
Took it with me when I moved from Chicago to San Diego... but couldn't bring it back when I moved back. =.="
How did your Mirage hold up in an accident? I always thought it was a death trap; completely made of plastic except for the trunk, roof and hood. So happy to have survived it and own a safe car like the Fit now.
The chassis was metal and all the body panels were metal.
In terms of accidents... I had three that I recall.
One was in the parking area where I used to live. Underestimated the slickness of the ice one winter. Slid into a wooden barrier. I broke the barrier and put a hole in the bumper.
The second was an econoline van crushing my front left fender, pulled off my front bumper and tore a hole in my tire. He decided he wanted to make a right turn... after I had already pulled up on his right side (I was about to make a right turn too). CA law states: when making a turn, you have to move as far as possible to the side you are making a turn on. He wasn't AND had no signal on... so it appeared he was going to go straight. It didn't help that the car was so low the roof line was BELOW his window. His insurance paid for the repair once I showed them that part of the CA law.
My third accident was when I tried to make a left turn... but the driver from the opposite direction decided to run a red light. The stupid thing was... he actually slowed down BEFORE it turned red... THEN sped up. AND all he had to do was "swerve" a few inches to his right to clear me since I had stopped already. I started to move since he was initially slowing down for the, then yellow, light... but stopped when I realized he was speeding up to run the red. Pulled off my bumper again (it was brand new, replaced from 2nd accident). Since I was making the turn, this bozo's insurance refused to pay. Man, I hate people that run reds. On the plus side... I don't think my insurance paid them either... he tried to accuse me of causing damage to his car. But when you look at it, even though it was close to where our cars "collided"... it wasn't caused by my car. Cause it if had... I would've also taken more damage than having my bumper pulled off. So it seemed like he had done this before (plenty of other little dents all around the car too).
The only time I felt "nervous" was when driving in the rain. Apparently at highway speeds... there's enough wind going up the windshield to LIFT the wipers off the glass... making them effectively useless. I had to exit and take local roads during a torrential downpour. It's very bizarre seeing wipers come down without even touching the glass. @.@

No injuries.
I test drove one this week right before I bought my Fit. It was ok, but I love Honda cars. My last car was a 2009 Accord and had almost 250K on it when I sold it. Also at just over 6 feet tall the Fiesta felt really cramped and my head was hitting the head liner.
IMO Ford Fiesta is better looking than the Fit.
My only problem with Ford Fiestas is not only the smaller cargo and rear head room but the fact that it's not as easily moddable like the Fit.
I actually was very close to getting a Fiesta before I got a good deal on the Fit. If I ever decide to trade-in my Fit. It will likely be for either another Fit or a Fiesta. I'm a big fan of Ford. My '03 Ranger gave me 7 years (bought used in '05) of quality service and never once broke down.

"Mod-ability" depends a lot on availability... and perception of it.
If the aftermarket part makers think there are more Fiestas on the road... they'll more likely make mods for it.
Look at the Fit, the 1st Gen was out a while, so when the 2nd gen came out, it was the same thing... lots of mods for the 1st gen, barely any for the 2nd. Heck, even now... you can't really say it has a lot either.
I mean, a few other cars have *a lot.*

If a young kid buys a brand new car most of the time they wont have the money right away to accessorize it to their liking. So aftermarket companies know this, they continue on making parts for more popular cars...... A couple years down the road when people start seeing the popularity of the newer vehicle, and used ones are available for cheaper purchase prices, then there will be a higher demand for aftermarkets.
I know when I bought my Prelude new back in 2000 there was NOTHING available for them. Thats why I added as many JDM things I could add to it, until there was a very small aftermarket demand for it. Now after selling it 2 years ago Ill look around to see whats new, and you can mod them to the moon just like a civic. Heck I remember making retro fit projector headlights for it, then selling them for $900...... Now theres so many chineese knock off headlights for about $200 its sickning.
Its a supply and demand thing...... one day these cars will have the vast array of parts for them just like the 92-95 civics
