***Official GE Parts/Weight List***
20 lbs is not insignificant...especially once you get down to around 2000 lbs. That's 1.0% of the car's weight. I wonder how much airbag system weighs?

Rear seat belt assembly (driver and passenger side)
*note:
1. this is only for the belt assembly and without the female harness which is on the back seats
2. two (one each side) floor mount bolts are not weighed as I retained them to minimize debris getting into the frame. Will be coming off after I obtain plugs.
4.75 lbs

Hey, here is an article about why saving weight on your car is important:

There is more to going fast than losing weight, but going fast is the best reason.

Okay, so the other day, I rotated my tires... and on that day I decided to weigh them and the original setup (I had bought a scale from Walmart to do this).
My flat tire weighed in at 34.8 lbs.
My non-flat stock setup came in at 35 lbs.
My new setup weighed 32.6 lbs
Incidentally, the Enkei + Conti comes out to 0.1 lb lighter than specs for them combined (I assume it's just a rounding error and manufacturing variance on the tires).
But it makes me wonder... how could my stock weigh 35 lbs? Compared to the first page listing it at 39 lbs. Or more specifically, weigh only 2.5 lbs more than the new setup. Granted, I haven't pumped any air into them since I took them off 3 months ago... but just air alone can't account for FOUR lbs!
The Dunlops weigh about 18 lbs according to Tirerack, which means the wheels weigh less than 17 lbs.
I have 12k miles worth of wear on the tires (appears to be half its tread life). So, can missing half its tread life, plus a couple of natural PSI loss over 3 months account for 4 lbs?
For some slight reference, I weighed myself... Dressed in jeans, t-shirt and sandals (and my bag of crap)... I weighed about 197, which is a hair more than all the other scales I've used (potbellys and where ever I found a free one). So, I think the scale is mostly correct.

Thanks for the update. Were you using a spring loaded scale? This is why I always tried to use digital packing scales.
I have two thoughts on why the weights are off:
1. One or the other of the scales are off (either yours or the OP)
2. Spring loaded scales have an optimal range where they are most accurate (i.e. 50-250 lbs). Anything outside of this range will under or over compress the spring resulting in inaccurate weights.
I think the second scenario is probably the most likely but both could e contributing in this scenario. I always hauled my stuff up to UPS to weigh them. It would be awesome if you could haul the wheels up to UPS and take a picture of the wheel on the scale.

The scale is supposedly a "high tech"ish one... using four load cells on each corner.
It's actually just a body weight scale. Walmart.com: Health o meter Oil Rubbed Chrome and Silver Scale: Home Medical
it's strange.

50/50 balance would be retarded in a FWD car...you'd have ZERO traction when you press the gas as the weight shifts rearward. Even 60/40 is a little too much weight in the rear IMO if you want a tail happy FWD car.
^^^ that's only part true. as i said, it's about balance.I'm not referring to the chassis balance, i meant that as in not going over board in removing weight from a given area and not in another. as a side note, removing weight from the front WILL increase handling as it will save on your tires, weight=heat= understeer. i speak from SCCA experience. only a noob removes/mods his car w/o contemplating first how it affects the balance of the car.
that helps, but not enough, you'd need something wider up front and skinnies for the rear to get a noticable improvment in oversteer. like 215's (if you can tuck em') and 185's...
btw lyon, i'm from SO ILL , near benton(though i live in oregon now.) whereabouts are ya? also, i've enjoyed your build thread.
