Passenger airbag light goes on and off

I have a bag on the seat but was wondering if anyone else notices the light will go on then go off. Is that normal?

Yep - take the bag away or make it heavier.

Or make bag lighter. I carry stuff on my front seat all the time without issue. I think the air bag trigger weight must be around 10 lbs. Laptop + windshield sunscreen + fast food bag never sets off the light.

It happens to me a lot, depending on what I have sitting on the passenger seat. Sometimes, at red lights, I'll lean on the seat to make the light go on. Just for fun.

It's supposed to go on when there is weight on the passenger seat but not too much. It's a safety precaution for times when lets say a 50 pound child is sitting in the front. You wouldn't want the forceful airbag deploying right into a kids face so it's turned off. I don't know the specific weight measure when it is re-activated though.

page 31 of the GE manual...

This indicator alerts you that the
passenger's front airbag has been
shut off because weight sensors
detect about 65 lbs (29 kg) or less
(the weight of an infant or small
child) on the front passenger's seat.
It does not mean there is a problem
with the airbag.
and on the next page...

Be aware that objects placed on the
front seat can cause the indicator to
come on.
If the weight sensors detect there is
no passenger in the front seat, the
airbag will be off. However, the
passenger airbag off indicator will
not come on.
The passenger airbag off indicator
may come on and off repeatedly if the
total weight on the seat is near the
airbag cutoff threshold.
