Official Fit "lightweight" thread

We did one of these on iwsti.com. Basically, I've considered ways to lighten the car up. It would be better for gas mileage and performance as well.

First off, a lightweight battery for spring/summer comes to mind. I have an Odyssey PC680 in my SE-R right now. I believe it only weighs in at 12 lbs or so and costs half what the Braille does.

Lightweight wheels...not sure yet. Most likely something in the 15" or 16" range. Possibly SSR, Volk, Work, Mugen, etc.

Let's also post up the weights of the OEM Fit parts here. Wheels, seats, everything.

OEM Sport wheels + tires combo = 35.2-36.0 lbs
OEM Sport wheels = 16-17 lbs
OEM battery = 22 lbs
Passenger side rear seat weighs in at 28 Lbs. (weight includes headrest)
Drivers side rear seat weighs in at 37.6 Lbs. (weight includes headrest)
3rd rear seat belt located in the rear headliner by rear hatch 3 Lbs. 1.5 oz

Manual Fit sport w/out rear seats, spare and jack. Konig heliums wheels with toyo RA1s = 2499 lbs (weighed at a track)

if i could just stick to a good diet/exercise plan......i could easily shed off 30 lbs. of fat...

that should help out the performance department for sure........

I could spare to drop about 15 lbs.

make it 20 pounds for me....... Dam good start, but I think it will be easier to just take all 5 doors and the back seats

OK the first thing we know is that the stock wheels are 36 poundsw/tires.

Has anyone weighed the wheels by themselves? What about the stock battery? It looks heavy for such a small car. Maybe 30 lbs?

I think relocating the battery to the rear of the car would GREATLY help weight distribution. We're already at something insane like 69/31!

But yes the stock sport rims have been weighed by Ben over at AJ Racing:

BUMP...I thought there would be more interest in this thread. Lighter Fit = better gas mileage.

Anyone know what the stock hood weighs vs CF? How about the OEM battery?

If you live in cold climate I'd recommend using the OEM for winter and for summer the PC680. Some people have been known to use these in the winter on some other cars without problems on other forums...but I wouldn't recommend it.

None of them are specific for the Fit. PC680 is the smallest I'd use in a car though.

Let's keep this thread going. More people need to post weights they've observed. I'll update the first post if/when we start to get more weights.

And, yes, keep it running (thread) cause you never know where you may find something to loose weight (not "doctor's weight loss center")

I weighed the wheel (w/o tire) at 16-17 lbs. This was done on a standard (not digital) scale which is why the range. The wheels I switched out to are about 2 pounds heavier and I have noticed no difference in performance or gas mileage (41.6 on my last fill up).

1) I ran an odyssey battery on my Mazda6 through 2 northeast winters (philly, pa) and never had a problem starting the car, so hope this helps.

2) Two lbs you probably wouldnt notice anything, and 16lbs is rather light to begin with (but I am coming from 17" wheels, 11lbs is a nice lightweight 15" wheel). When i went from 20lb wheels to 15lb wheels you can instantly tell the difference the car felt more nimble overall. Unsprung weight is the easiest thing to gain power from, only problem is there are only a few places in a car where it is economical to reduce the weight. Wheels/Tires is one easy way. I dont think i ever noticed a gas milage improvement from my lighter wheels, just driving dynamics

OEM battery is 22lbs. i got a braille battery part number B2015. Weighs 15lbs and is half the size. Perfect for NY winters. Has 140 more cold cranking amps.

What a great thread... I'm totaly sold on lightening up my FIT to make it more economical and faster. However, I did add 10lbs to my FIT by adding floor mats and possibly a locking cas cap (once I get it keyed to my original key). That being said:

The obvious have been taken out of my car (wish I had weight info):

Owners Manuals:
Spare Tire
Jack
Lug Nut Wrench
Rear Seat Head Rests

I hope these suggestions help!

I would stay away from removing the tire and jack, unless you are autocrossing, and leave them for emergencies. And the headrests weigh nothing, I wouldn't see an improvement in loosing those.

I owned an older passat for racing. I ripped out the rear seats, plastic interior panels, door panels, carpet, cardboard, and other useless things. It dropped a whopping 20 lbs from my 3000 lb. car- I wasted my time. I know 20 lbs. is more to the Fit, but it isn't worth it unless you go for broke and rip everything out.
