I can appreciate wanting to drop some pounds from the vehicle weight, but the previous post seems a bit overboard. What kind of gains are you expecting? Just wondering...

 

Yhea I hear you! The cost factor doesn't justify the weight savings for most of us.

Scenario (not mine)
$120 for Rays lug nuts (1lbs lighter than OEM nuts)
$2000 for Rays CE28N and A048 (26lbs lighter than OEM)
$1100 for an ATS-Across 1000kg Clutch Kit (around 8.5lbs lighter than OEM)
$100 for a Odyssey Dry Cell Battery (7lbs lighter than OEM)
---------
$3,320.00 for 42.5lbs of weight savings! Weight savings costs $78.11 a pound in the above scenario. Not very economical...

I Still think that taking out the spare tire, jack and lug nut wrench (free) is the best option (as long as you have AAA or similar service).

 

so you would rather call AAA and wait for a tow truck to tow you back home than put a donut on???

 

I'm just guessing here that the spare tire, jack and tire wrench weight 20lbs. I think that 20lbs of weight savings in our Fit would positively effect my fuel efficiency over a year to justify me waiting for a tow truck and getting towed home. How much do you think 20lbs of weight savings would effect fuel efficiency in our cars?

 

no clue. But IMO it is not enough to wait for god nows how long for AAA to come and tow my ass home when i could change the tire in 10 minutes. What happens if you are going somewhere important? do you put it in and take it out again? Do you really think you would save that much?

I have no clue too to be honest! That math is beyond me. Can someone help us out and determine how 20lbs of weight savings would effect our Fits fuel efficiency for a year. I know there are a lot of variables here but lets say that we have the following:

12,000 miles a year
gas $2.50/gal.
Fit gets 35 miles/gallon
Fit weights 2541 (2561-20)

Maybe we'll find out that most of the weight savings suggestions are worthless for fuel efficiency.

 

stock air box 6 lbs replaced with short ram (fujita) 2 lbs
(note i used a bathroom scale)

 

So if everybody went on a diet for a month or two, we would all be getting the epa estimated 33 and 44 mpg we all thought we would get? Good Idea.

I don't see 20 pounds making much of a difference in fuel economy. You are talkin about less than 1 percent of the total body weight. If I have a passenger in the car, let's say an average of 170 pounds, I won't see any significant MPG gains. If you do see some gains you are gonna have to report back please.

 

I recomend to take the spare only for track, but if you willl, then take a can of FixA Flat and presto.

Also, If you take 26lbs from the wheels, may be just only 1% or less, but the efect (in the wheels case) will be really feeled!! unsprung weight, is very real in terms of overal performance.

Otherwise if your car is not for race only, then its worthless to strip it out.

Anyway, to each their own. Its only my opinion.

Check out the AJR's fit. They whent a long way to lighten an already light car.

Only to see if it's worth the try.

BTW, I delete the muffler and took some pounds without planning it!!
also my shiftknob weights 95gr, but the rotating mass is where it matters.

 

I can understand dropping wheel weight, but taking the spare and jack out or the headrests is a bit much. Even dropping wheel weight will only improve performance, but MPG gains will be minimal if anything.

That is perfect, but when I have to replace it, no know just for the performance gains...... anyway the factory one is more than adecuate for the power level of the Fit.

Good find. I've never heard of that brand before. Hmm...I might have to look into this come Spring.

 

I'd love to see someone who can figure something like this out too. Maybe we have to go for something more than 20. What about 100 pounds difference? What will 100 pounds of cargo do to gas mileage? or say, 3 other passengers.. 400 lbs? 500?

What did you end up doing for the tie down? It looks like that one in the link is for Vdubs. Does the OEM work well enough. Maybe some shorter "J" hooks would be needed is my guess.
