While I agree with this...

...it's just sad that in some places, the attitude which has greater uniformity is that of showing off or letting ego run rampant.

If the prevailing attitude was one of helping each other then I ain't complainin'.

Yeah that's it.... it is just frustrating to try and explain to a non gearhead, why people enjoy 'individualizing' their cars in whatever way they want.

The BMW motorcycle forums in the mid 90's, people were grateful to finally have a great way to easily share and communicate, so nobody posted up things like "why are you adjusting your valves"?

Maxima.org was my favorite before Internet Brands bought out Doug the owner. 52,000 members, 1000 times the humor you find here. Yes flaming but actually done in a more cerebral way than most forums.
They had a section called the "ban log" and the mods would list bannings which were sometimes 10 a week, and they would often link to the posts which got them a vacation. Many times it was hilarious.

I think here you have a younger than average age group, people that have not held very many wrenches, that simply have purchased a budget car.
And folks that have not yet had many (often humbling) life experiences.

Tho a number of the youngest here are very knowledgeable, some are quite brilliant in fact.

True, it is this 'prevailing attitude ' which separates good or great forums from lame ones.
generally, if I can't add value, I do not post or I sometimes go back and delete my posts.

I missed having a weekend track car, so I bought one. No more wishing I had a faster car. Oh how I've missed having a cornering monster that can redline higher than 7000.

Seems like a bunch of bolt-on-wonderboys between the ages of 20-30 with some serious compensation issues are the only people who drive the cars. It's much of the same in every mustang, camaro, cobalt ss, srt-4 (speaking of which have you ever seen an srt-4 neon that wasn't riced out?) etc. etc. forum out there.

I feel like we are a lone island of sanity. Aparently 1.5L helps keep your head on straight.
As someone who falls into the class of people you're trying to indict, I'd like to set the record straight.

LS1GTO has about 36k members. As the prices have fallen, so has the quality of new owners. However, many of our regular posters are, or interact on a level of maturity above the age of 25. Every board is going to have its share of morons. However, most will also have wealth of knowledge if you know where to look. A lot of that has to do with moderating staff doing their jobs.

Take CorvetteForum for example. There are PLENTY of 18-30 year olds running around in C5s and C6s now because prices have dropped. Yet this arm flailing idiocy that you provided as an example of "all" people with fast cars is nowhere to be found. Again, moderating staff. And the fact that often, member bases will police their own.

And it's not just the domestic boards. I saw a little of this behavior on G35Driver, back when I had one, but for the most part, those 93k members were well behaved. Stupid at times, but you get that everywhere.

However, if you're looking for something, you're going to find it. Yes, you can go on every board in existence and find a thread that makes the owners of that car look like a bunch of asshats. I guarantee I could do it here. However, to make sweeping generalizations about all of those owners, and then further all the owners of those kinds of cars, sounds a bit compensatory.

Point of irony......defining yourself as "classy" while calling someone else gutter trash.

The fit has always been cheap... why don't we have as many morons here?

Because you don't have a vehicle that is defined by it's power to impress others. I wasn't arguing that these people don't exist. I was arguing that it's tacitly unfair to paint all enthusiasts who actually buy fast cars with the same brush.

Fair enough, it's absurd to think there aren't real ethusiasts. So I guess I have to reword it to: Every once in a while I wish had a faster car, but I fear if I did I would be sorrunded by many morons ('enthusiasts') and few true enthusiasts judging by the limited time I have spent looking through other forums.

It's all in who you choose to surround yourself with. I don't like half the GTO owners in my area. They're morons. It's a fairly rare car, but I still managed to make very good friends with a group of about 15 of them. And these are people who are truly passionate about cars. So, to that point, you're right. There are far more people who buy a fast car to be seen in than there are people who buy a fast car to DRIVE it.

I'm not an enthusiast, I'm a gearhead. There's a difference.

I agree, I have 2 Integra's and have come across many annoying people during meets and on forums. Find the ones you like and forget the rest.

On a side note though, Fit Freak isn't big enough. Wait until it gets to be the size of honda-tech or integra.net. I can guarantee there will be a fair share off asshats, it's the internet where people can behave without fear of repercussions it's just a matter of time.
