Thoughts on a Fit just out of break-in

I'm just out of break-in and thought I'd post a few random thoughts:

1. Is this a sweet ride or what?

2. Boy, is 1st gear REALLY short or what?

3. One of the things that has struck me is how high I sit. It's MUCH easier to get in and out than my old car (a Saturn L1). on the road, it doesn't feel like I'm riding in a sub-compact. As I look around when driving, I'm higher than many other drivers that are in cars that are noticeably larger than the Fit. It's not like a SUV but still, what a nice surprise.

4. I find the driver's seat to be comfortable. I have experienced zero driver/butt fatigue.

I'd welcome anyone else's thoughts

Haha. I'm still enjoying sitting practically on the ground. After driving pickups and SUVs for the past 8 years, the Fit still feels really low. I just keep forgetting that this low beast has to creeeep over gutter dips at the edge of driveways, and can't go all the way to the front edge of most parking spaces. SCRAPE!

It does occasionally irritate me that i can't just hop it over the curb.

I'm an older guy and I'm really appreciating the seats - a lot less aches and pains and driver's fatigue after a few hours behind the wheel.
And yes, you do sit up higher in a Fit than in many other little cars.

Regards -

Dan

First gear isn't short
you're simply letting it go too soon
just hold on a bit more
then be prepared to catch the RPM's when you slap second
......

Jeez, I am so used to shifted at around 3,000 rpm's. Particularly in 1st, where do you recommend shifting. It would seem that shifting all gears around 3,000 rpm would help the gas mileage. Am I wrong about this?

No, you're not doing anything wrong, if anything keep it up a few more thousand. However, the engine you're throttling is capable of quite a high RPM. It takes understanding and technique to drive in the upper limits - but the FIT will do it.

Where your engine is I would continue to go easy on things. Watch as the GPM's increase - get to know how to drive as economically as you can.
Your engine will "learn" your driving profile [actually the ECM].

Some where around 3-4K you'll be letting the RPM's climb. Wait till you see 40MPG on the display - and not down hill either. Then push it. Simply hold it in gear a little longer.

Work your way in - it should be natural, it takes getting used to - then the fun comes out.

Anyways. I shift my first gear between 4K-6K all the time. I'm a spirited driver though

I'm getting close to being out of break-in mileage. Enjoying the car a lot, first car in a while I felt like being involved. We traded an 07 Civic which was a good car, just not engaging, kind of like a few Honda Motorcycles I've owned, great quality, very reliable.....kind of like a good refrigerator.

The Fit on the other hand.....fun

HA! I like that one! And I agree, the Fit is anything but that. I still look forward to driving it. It's like the pet dog that loves to go out and play- hard!

i think many sports cars actually have shorter first gears, i felt like the fit's was actually perfect.. if not short enough.

Have you taken yours on a long drive yet? By "long drive" I mean four hours or more on the saddle. Would like to know how your knees and thighs are feeling afterward.

That's really my only complaint with the Fit's seats, old or new: For my physique (5'8", medium build), the thigh support is lacking.
