Anyone changed their brakes already?

Just wondering if anyone had to change their breaks already and if they did about how many miles or kilometers did you change it at?

Also, is there anything to change for the rear drums?

Any info would be great! Thanks

What kind of info are you looking for? I recently changed my rotors so I got a good look at the brakes. It`s a pretty standard Honda set up. oh and yes the rear drums have pads that have to be changed like the front.

Just wondering at what mileage you changed them at and if you stuck with OEM pads. Would it be hard to change those yourself?

well I upgraded my rotors to slotted so it wasn't a service related issue. I did keep the OEM pads and everything is fine. The pads are very easy to change on the fronts. If you have the proper tools it can be done in 20 minutes for both sides. It might be a bit longer but I have been changing pads on Hondas for over 10 years so you get pretty fast at it.

This is the 1st car I have owned that has had drum brakes but I have worked on a few and it's not that complicated. As far as changing pads it really depends on what conditions you drive in. lots of stop and go then you will change pads sooner than someone who drives mostly highway etc.

I see you're in Canada if you're near me at all I can always take time out to help a fellow Honda owner

Front pads are easier to replace than the rear shoes. The rear shoes last longer than the front pads. The drums themselves last a lot longer.

If you have to ask "... hard to change those yourself?" then I would recommend getting it gone by a pro or at least have someone knowledgeable show you the proper methods. Safety is more important than saving a few bucks.

I've changed my pads on my GD3 at about 65 000km... they could have gone longer but i wanted to change them. I'm planning to chnge the rotors and the drums next time i change the pads... the drums are a little harder because there are more parts... if you don't feel like changing them you can wait, i have a friend who's drums never had been change in a long while and they were toast... he changed them and did'nt feel that much of a difference... as for the front brakes, everything is super easy to change... all you have to do is unscrew the caliper (if you're only doing the pads you can loosen only the bottom one and pivot it) than make sure it's not hanging the brake hose... take off the pads, unscrew the rotor then pull it out... etc. everything is pretty much straight forward... the only particular tool you need is something to push back the master cylinder (i use a big C-clamp)... don't forget to clean everything with brake part cleaner and put fresh grease

My front pads needed replacing around 42K-43K miles. Rears are still fine.

How much did you pay for your slotted rotors and where'd you get em? I think I need to replace mine soon lol. Too much stop and go traffic

Are you sure most cars can go over 100k before they need new rotors unless you've had some kind of mechanical problem with your brakes. You may just need new pads. Anyway, I don't remember how much I paid because I got them a while ago it was something like $125-150 for the pair. I got them at Lordco. You will not be able to get it from them because they're only in Canada.

I would suggest you look up Group 5 Motorsports or The Hook-up shop. I use to use both of them when I lived in San Diego. Just make sure you ask for 90-93 Integra front disks as I'm not sure if Powerslot has officially labeled them Honda Fit rotors.

My 91 Intergra had original rotors until 200K+ miles

I'm now at over 71,000 kms (about 40,000 miles) on my 09 Sport MT, and still on my original front brake pads, which are about 50% worn. This is more a reflection of an extreme percentage of highway miles driven as opposed to super-long-wearing brake components.

I have a 2007,... Changed the pads today 6/6/10, with 43.5K.

Pads were 1/2 used.... did not have to change em, but I did. Its was really easy to install the new pads. The inside pad had more wear than the outerpad.
