Where to buy lock door switch (the plastic thing on the handle)?

Hi, my fit was towed today, and I discovered they scratched the driver side plastic lock switch (the one on the handle) hard. no idea what they had used to open the door... Not sure if it's worth filing a claim and potentially affecting my insurance rates? Didn't even challenge them, they would have come up with a myriad of excuses... Was wondering if it's not too expensive, then I'd just fix it myself... Any suggestions? thanks

Would suggest you notify the company regarding the damage. Don't be intimidated by them. A call to your agent might be in order, not to place a claim, but to find out what they suggest. Could be a comprehensive claim, but the deductible might wash it out. Can't imagine it would effect rates, but I really don't know.

First step is call the tow guys.

So why was your FIT towed????

The locking tab for the doors? The dealership should have that. Mine snapped off for some reason...which caused a little frustration because it controls all doors, the hatch, and the fuel filler door. Argh.

It's actually a shared part. Honda replaced mine with one from a 1996 Accord. The only difference now is that it's noticeably a little taller than the others.

The tab is ABS plastic by the way. If you know anything about working plastic, ABS is quite strong, but brittle and will not take kindly to bending.

Just an update. I found an image of the door handle online. They scratched the rim/frame and the lock tab/switch of the driver side handle. I checked on ebay, it costs $36 to buy an OEM replacement. I also checked progressive FAQ (I am not with progressive, but they should be similar Understanding Insurance - Who Pays for Towing Damage?) they say such claims "may or may not" increase my rates. Has any of you had experience with such small claims... I am not sure if $36 is worth all the arguing and potential impact on my rates... my car was towed for street cleaning. In the past, they would just give you a ticket...

Cut to the chase and spend the $36. I thought it was the exterior that was damaged.

Also, $36 should be less than your deductible. So even if you report it, you'll still pay the full price.

How the heck did the tow truck damage that?

I didn't know the cost at first, and I was hoping to get the towing company's insurance to pay for it. It may not be worth it in this case, since I would have to notify my own insurance company as well. I guess they tried to unlock the doors to get in, because my car was in first gear and had handbrake on. I don't know what they did.... is there a service manual on these forums that I can download for the 2010 fit sport?
