Probably will purchase within next few days
So I found the Fit I want at a local Honda dealership and I may purchase it within the next few days. I'm excited!
Question, though, is the warranty worth it? I mean, it's a Honda, and warranties are rarely (if ever) worth it. Is this one any different?

Factory is 3years/36,000 miles bumper to bumper and 5years/60,000 miles on the power train.
The add-on extended warranties are not worth it. They rarely cover things that break beyond the factory warranty. And when they do the deductible is usually almost the cost of the repair. When you add the cost of the deductible to the cost of the insurance you can do a whole lot of repairs beyond the factory warranty.
If you feel you must have an extended warranty, these can be purchased anytime (they don't have to be bought when you buy the car) and you can always get a better deal from someone besides the dealer. These are pure dealer profit. Keep in mind, Honda builds very reliable cars.
Honda dealers also charge exorbitant prices for things like floor mats (they're not standard). After you negotiate the best price they'll bring out a menu of accessories with ridiculous mark-ups beyond the full Honda retail price. Know what accessories you want and include them in the negotiation. Here's a good place to start: college hills honda.
I didn't and felt silly after getting the rock bottom price only to find it didn't come with floor mats. But I didn't jump at their offer of mats for $190 and found them online.

After you make the best deal (including accessories) they'll sit you down in the finance guy's office and he will start working on you. This is where they will offer the extended warranties (and most of the sales profit is generated is my guess). The other big item they try to tack on is service agreements. Usually with nitrogen. What a crock. Don't buy anything from this guy. If you finance and don't get a factory incentive interest rate keep in mind the finance rate is negotiable too. Research interest rates before you go back to this guys office. He is the devil's disciple (aaaaak # of posts: 666; I am the devil's least minion!).
In my dealer's defense, though, once I said, "Can we just cut to the chase?" he stopped trying to sell me girl scout cookies and said, "sure."

Well, the percentage they're gonna give me is the best I've found (even though I'm attached to a teachers' credit union) and I'm not getting any accessories. The wheel lock prices still flabbergast me when I see them attached.
Btw, I'm looking at a white Fit Sport MT. I'm downgrading in size from a 1995 Impala SS (and upgrading, exponentially, in MPG).

I agree about negotiating the accessories BEFORE signing the contract. I was "mislead" by my salesperson who originally said The Fit came with mats...then after I purchased "discovered" Oh, he was mistaken...The Fit was the only model that DID NOT come with Mats....eventually they gave me the Mat's for free...but charged me $50 to install the hooks...that by the way aren't installed from the factory and involve cutting into the carpet to install.
Honda charges for every extra..you can do much better if you want to install yourself and just hunt the internet.

yeah, the biggest con is the dealer ADM fee they "have" to charge; "think of the poor office clerks!" I think it means administration, but it's really additional dealer markup.
They roll this out after you've agreed on a price. They did this to me verbally (out the door price) and the price including tax, tag, and title was about $500 higher than it should have been. I questioned this and they said, "ADM!" They really did mention that the office help had to eat too.
I walked. About halfway home they called me and said, "We're so sorry, how about we knock another $500 off the price?" The rest is history.

As for the warranty question, the best idea is instead of buying extended warranties to put the money that you would have spent on the warranty into its own savings account/ledger entry/etc. Then when something breaks, you pull from that account. That way, you'll earn the interest on the money rather than the dealer/warranty company.
