Fit & iPhone 4

Anyone have trouble playing music from iPhone 4 in your fit. It says unsupported. It worked fine with my old 3G iPhone. 09 Fit Sport

i don't have iPhone 4 but whenever my 3GS was connected and it said "unsupported" i would just restart the phone and it works afterwards.

Try restarting, and also before you connect your iPhone, go into the iPod app and make sure you aren't on the video tab.

My iPhone 4 works just fine with my 2010 Sport. Although the controls are completely useless. Turning the knob to scroll through songs or artists takes days. Do yourself a favor and get an auxiliary cable or an aftermaket radio. I have a Kenwood DNX6140 that I'm going to put in. I have all the parts ordered, including dash kit, but haven't found the time to do it. I have had the car for two weeks. I can't wait!

Or you can jailbreak your iPhone and get the app in Cydia called "NoAccessorySplash". It lets you control the music from both the phone and the head unit. Someone else on here pointed it out to me, and I love it!

Workaround for Iphone and Fit

I don't have an iPhone 4, but I did upgrade my 3GS to OS 4. The big difference between the OS's is that OS4 supports multitasking - in essence every app you run continues to run in the background even after you switch applications. I've noticed that if the iPod app is already running, I have problems. The workaround I've been using (which is faster than rebooting the phone) is just closing the iPod app. Here's how to do it:

1. With the iPhone unplugged, double click on the Home button (the button with the square on the bottom). The applications currently loaded into memory will show up.
2. Find the iPod application. You can switch pages by swiping your finger.
3. Hold the iPod application icon for 2 seconds. The icons will start to jiggle and a circle with a minus sign will appear. Click on the circle with the minus sign to close the iPod app.
4. Plug your iPhone into the USB connector in the car.
5. The screen on the navigation will read "Loading" .

The iPhone itself will probably say that it is unsupported, but it should still work.

Okay, so I'm a few weeks behind.

The "list" of apps that show up when you double tap the home button isn't a list of background apps... just a list of apps you've run before. The list includes apps you ran a while before a full iPod/iPhone reboot (meaning they're not running now).

I was using an iPod touch 2g for a while and just got myself the new iPod touch 4g. The old one was crashing way too often and was pissing me off. So far, the new one is much better at NOT crashing.

I did have an issue with the Fit loading the iPod without audio and starting in single track repeat mode. Seems to go away if I don't have my playlist in repeat on the iPod itself.

I haven't encountered either error messages yet (unsupported ver or connection retry). Here's hoping I never do.

Yeah, it seems like you're right. I guess I was confused by Job's keynote speech. Never actually looked it up in the manual before. The list is a list of "recent apps". However, closing those apps does actually kill the running process. You can see it being killed if you have a process viewer app like Systeminfo. Also, I verified it by starting to play a song in the iPod app, then double-clicking the home button and closing the app (removing it from the recent list) and the music stopped. Checking the process list also shows the corresponding process no longer running (for the iPod app, its process is listed as MobileMusicPlayer). All I know is that it has seemed pretty consistent to me - If I had been running the iPod app previous to plugging it into the car, it wouldn't load through the Navi system and you couldn't control it (it would still play the music running through the speakers for whatever was currently playing). Closing the app (removing it from the recent list) would allow Navi to load it so you could control it through the car controls.

I agree that killing background apps will help.

That's what I was doing when I had sbsettings installed when the 2g iPod was hacked. I'd kill various apps and it would crash less. But the problem is hacking it to install sbsettings also takes up ram and the 2g just didn't have enough ram to really deal with an accessory that act as an external control.

What is interesting is that the 4g iPod touch supposedly only has 256mb of ram (same as 3GS according to rumors)... so my best guess is that the phone needs more things loaded than the iPod, either that or I just haven't used as ram intensive apps as you on my 4g iPod.
