Weather and power.

Anyone else notice a disproportionate increase in power whenever temps fall below 50 degrees? I frequently monitor my 0-60 times as a way of keeping tabs on my engine. Whenever the temps fall below about 50 degrees I suddenly find about a full 1 second coming off my NA 0-60 times which is crazy but I've verified it over and over I understand we get about 1% extra power for every 10 degrees lower the IAT is but there is some magic temperature threshold where it just kicked in, yo. Anyone got a scangauge to see if it's advancing timing in relation to IAT?

Then again nothing makes sense about the l15a7. The damn thing is indestructable no matter how much preigntion you through at it. Piston rings magically heal. Hell it even goes .5 sec faster NA 0-60 than NA baseline for about 30 minutes after anytime I use the ole 55 shot.

I too notice an increase in power when the temp gets below 50-60. I mostly notice it not at full throttle but generally at 3/4 throttle. It pulls much harder and the engine just seems to work a lot easier. This is just by my butt dyno though. I have no scientific facts it is any faster.

cooler, more condensed air = more power

Man, then I'm gonna have like 8,000 horsepower this winter...

The temp routinely gets to -30 here in MN from late Dec to early February

Hey Lyon, speaking of intake temp...the new JDP hood should significantly reduce underhood engine temps. I'm gonna set up a thermometer under the hood and take idle temp before and after the hood install.

Re: 0-60 times....is anyone using the new iPhone app? Import Tuner did a big write up on it this month...it is pretty dang accurate for speed as well as HP.

Makes perfect sense. as air cools the density increases so more O2 is drawn into cylinders. Yes more N2 as well. And traction increases to about 50 F so that helps too. Fuel also increases in density but its effect is not as greart. There's just more O2 to burn the fuel. I doubt the resuilt is very observable outside a dyno room.

Do you have a consistant amount of gas in the tank each time you clock it? Down below a 1/4 tank- approaching an 1/8th- is when I really LOVE to drive the Fit. With all that extra weight mostly gone, the car really zips around much quicker. I always have a ball the day before I refuel. Fuel economy for the tank is all but over and it's much lighter in weight and that makes for some fun giddy yap! I also notice that the Fit just does better minus the extremes, be it hot or cold. I guess that's true of any car though.

i don't think it's gotten below 75 since I've got my Fit.

but we get some chilly winter days sometimes! I saw sleet last year in Tampa!
