Sorry for cluttering the thread with a useless post.

it was a thoughtful suggestion. no need to apologize. even if they could do it, imagine the price.

Guys, you sometimes forget that the Honda Fit is an economy car, a cheap car, a low budget car, cheapie,...call it what you like, so therefore you shouldn't expect it to come or even have available high end/expensive items such as privacy glass. I know the Element isn't exactly a Mercedes, but it is more expensive. If I bought a Rolls Royce I would be pissed if it didn't have a holder for a Gray Poupon jar, but not if I buy a Fit.
Sounds like you need to get rid of your dogs, put mitts on them, replace the tint film often, or go without.

i don't consider privacy glass to be a luxury option. you're right that the fit is an entry level car but many other entry levels have it as an option. for example, you can get it quite easily for the base model ford ranger, which is in the same price range as a fit. i could never get rid of my dog over automotive window tint, lol, so i guess i'll have to figure something else out. for all i know, someone might even make dog (scratch) resistant film.

Other entry level cars don't have it as an option.

Other entry level light trucks have it as an option.

In one case, I've seen a "car" reclassified to "light truck" and begin to be offered with it (Mazda5). If you look at the EPA's public fuel economy website, you'll see that any vehicle classified as a light truck (minivan-SUV-pickup, etc) will have N/A for its passenger and cargo volume. That's because these vehicles ostensibly can be reconfigured as cargo vehicles, so cargo space is flexible. If you can build it as a panel van, why couldn't you have dark tinted windows? A plus side is that this is based on federal law, so state laws can't prohibit factory privacy glass.

Honda chose to classify the Fit as a car, thought they probably could have finagled a "truck" classification for it if they'd tried.

I'd consider a seat height adjustment and paddded door armrests to be features that aren't "luxury," and expected on a new car, but there's another thread for that!

3 options:

1. Don't tint.
2. Tint and if they get ripped, deal with it.
3. Train your dog. Yes they can be trained.

ahhh thats what i was thinking, i was reading something like that, and thats why the HHR can have that kind of glass and the fit can't.

I still don't understand this. Federal law states that an economy car can't have factory tinted windows?

why is this turning into a debate? i originally asked if anyone knew where to get privacy glass for a fit. the answer was given and a few reasons why were also given. now people are coming on here and acting like only losers want privacy glass for their car. well sir, i happen to really like privacy glass and think it's cool; similar to how some people like ambient lighting, an arm rest, or even a f'kn ashtray. deal with that!

Well it may not be available there, but my Fit came with privacy glass stock, it is not a film. So nobody should say Honda does not offer privacy glass on the Fit, because the universe doesn't revolve around the US.

so it is out there somewhere, but unfortunately would probably be hugely expensive to get in north america. btw, you may also be interested to know that north americans always seem to get stuck with the least fuel efiicient models as well (not necessarily referring to the fit). no little diesels for us.

Actually, it pretty much does. Not that there's anything wrong with the rest of the world. ;-)

Cars can't have privacy glass. Most trucks, SUVs, and vans are sliding through a loophole by being claimed to be "trucks" which don't even have to have windows in the back.

We've been there for everyone... again, like it or not!

Funny thing about that... nice to be hated by the world after you pull so many other nations a$$3$ out of hock for so many years. Think we'll get the same treatment in return if we were to go down? The rest of the entitlement-minded world has a bad habit of biting the very hands who feed them!

We'll see what the rest of the "revolving universe" would look like if the everyone-loves-to-hate U.S. ever ceases to exist as we've known it. I think idiotic forces within our own government would actually like nothing better at this point. Either that, or they have to be the most idiotic and clueless excuses for "leaders" who ever purposely or ignorantly urinated on the grounds of our nation's capitol!

But I digress!
Aw geez. Can we not do this here?

Gasoline is cheap here - there is less financial benefit to having less power. That said, I'd love to have a diesel Accord Estate. Lots if wagon space for junk hauling, lot of torque for trailer towing - I could get a Flatbed trailer and have the basic utility of a pickup.

i'll concede that gas price is possibly a factor in our poor choice of engine selections.

gas isn't going to stay cheap forever and one of the main reasons that i bought a fit was to save on gas once it begins to climb again. and it will.

OT:
you may be curious to know that you , an american, pay less for canadian oil and gas than i, a canadian, do. we're taxed right up the @ss here. our dollars are both worth the same amount right now and it costs me $47 to fill my fit. how much does it cost you?

Generally (for 9 gallons) $27 or so. I think CAD and USD are about even right now.

In places like the UK where fuel is significantly more expensive, fuel economy sells.

Current petrol price is 117.7p/litre. That would be 3.78 litres per US Gallon, so £4.45/US gallon. That comes up to $7.11 at the current exchange rate ($1.60/£1). Putting in 9 gallons would cost US$63.99 there.

It makes the 62.77 mpg Aygo (that would be 4.5 l/100km, or 51.9 mpg) a far more enticing proposition than it would be here where the average new car (ignoring trucks/SUVs) is over 3500 lbs.
