Posted this on Repair & Maintenance. Lots of lurkers but no response...

What's the top chamber on the stock intake box for? The one covered and held by 2 screws between the TB and intake inlet?

its a resonator.... if you take it off you gain 0hp/trq.

y? well if you look at the inlet of the intake "small oval near the brake fluid reservoir" it doesn't feed into that chamber it goes under it in its own tubular chamber.

"modded box"

it acts as a silencer, with it off it sounds like you have an intake (a pipe type intake or any intake without all the silencing mechanism)

on some cars they have cold air intake stock, and the tubing is bent up with a combination of having it built in before the actual filter, but on a Honda Fit, its like we have Ram intake stock.. and i have to admit.. thats the biggest silencer i ever seen on an intake... and i think its mostly because its a Ram style

i beleive if you just have it off,it will just be loud, and it has nothing to do with the air thats filtered before the engine, so having it off should be safe. My stock intake is at home, so please someone correct me if iam wrong, but last time i checked i poped it off and it does not effect with the filtration.

Thanks guys. I thought I was screwed driving with one of the screws off. What happened was... for some reason one of the screws broke off when I was tightening it. There's not much torque you can apply with a screw driver that can break off those screws but it did and I don't know why.

yeah iam actually thinking about putting my stock intake back on... i kinda miss the sound of a stock air intake

cold air intake, and other intakes is a bit loud for me... i drive with other people in the car all the time, and the sound gets in the way of music... and just talking to other people in the car.

You are right. Before I installed my intake I took it off and drove around for about a month. The only thing I noticed was more noise. No performance gain at all.

I too miss the silence sometimes. So I actually installed my stock box back in after I installed my SRI but I noticed a decrease in power instantly (primarily high end) and I noticed the stock airbox didn't have as much throttle response. I then reinstalled the SRI right back on. Also with the SRI the Fit actually sounds like it has some balls (g35 sound) so I deal with the slightly louder engine. But that's just me... different strokes for different folks.

Im not 100% sure, but I think its removable to aid in removing the whole intake?
