Smile Fit Noob Here

Hello FitFreak.net!

After years of driving used clunkers/undependable rides, I feel so good to say that I am a very proud owner of a brand-spanking new 2010 GE8 since yesterday! I'm so excited; I frikkin' LOVE this car! I love the shape, handling, comfort, versatility, economy, etc. I got the Sport/VSA/Navi/5AT trim in sexy SSM. Vroooooom!

I'm completely new to this whole new car thing. Not looking to mod my Fit too much (if not at all), but hopefully by joining this forum, I can see what others are doing to spruce theirs up, share stories, advice, etc.

No pics yet since it's been rainy here in the Bay this whole weekend. Just wanted to introduce myself, so...hello!

Here she is.

Fresh from the dealership and nothing is modded as of yet. I'm inexperienced when it comes to motorsports and the like but I know I want to mod aesthetics/comfort and things that can make my ride more eco friendly (i.e. lighter wheels). I've been perusing the forums and I've been seeing a lot of sweet looking rides. Right now, I'm jocking the JDM base tails and red badges for starters, as well as the black Clazzios but I'm in no hurry.

Don't put HID bulbs in the car and blind everybody else.

I hope you got "proper" HIDs and adjusted the aim accordingly.

By proper, I don't mean retrofit (though that would've been good too)... I mean HIDs with a sharp, clean and straight cutoff line. I've gone through three kits when I was installing PNP HID kits in the Pathfinder. Two provided clean cutoffs but the third did not.

With a clean cutoff, you can aim it the same way normal headlights are, and that's having the cutoff drop about 1 inch or so after 25 ft (the important thing is DROP as it goes further from the car).

With the bad cutoff, you're forced to lower the aim a LOT more... otherwise you risk blinding oncoming drivers all the time, that is rude and dangerous. I could never understand how drivers let their cars blind people... I'm sitting high in an SUV being blinded by a small BMW coupe that's barely 50 ft away on the same flat surface I'm on.

As for the OP...

I'll list the "mods" I've done so far, and maybe that'll give you a few more ideas...

swapped out headlights for duals (link and link, not advised if you're not "MacGyver"ish and need things to line up... check last post I just added).
installed custom mesh grille (link, I actually did mine while my bumper was off for the headlight swap, so it was a bit easier to put the grille itself in)
door visors
center armrest
car seat covers (link, mine is all black and I really like em)
swapped horn
all-season floor mats

I have my cardomain site that shows the results of those mods (apparently I haven't taken pics of the armrest and seat covers)... link.

I like the White wheels. The lights though... not so much. HID's not properly installed with projectors (or reflector housings designed for HID's) are worse for both the person behind the wheel and other drivers due to light not being focused in the right area but everywhere else.

thanks for the kind replies, folks. i've already learned so much by browsing/searching.

i think i'll hold off on the HIDs; i really like my stock lights right now and i wouldnt wanna blind other drivers.

The horn on there is half of a set of "PIAA Sports Horns 400/500 Hz" I got from Amazon. I put in the 400 Hz one.

I'd put both, but then I'd need to figure where to mount the second one and possibly get a relay to power both. Putting just one is almost a direct plug and play (the plug is different, but mounts in the same spot as old one).

I like it much more than the factory horn.

It was originally installed in the Pathfinder I was borrowing from my sister and her husband. But since they complained that everything I did was a "waste" of money, I put their factory horns back in (sounds just as bad as the Honda's factory horn, from inside the cabin anyway... on an SUV!!!) when I returned it to them. They like to complain about EVERYTHING I do/buy, then turn around and use it (and me) for their own ends... family, gotta love em.

Yeah, like I said, I really like the seat covers... gives it a bit more softness to the touch. Because they add a bit of foam to the inside also, it's definitely more cushiony than factory (I wouldn't say factory is hard/rough or whatever, more like, I don't remember). I didn't intend on changing the "cushiony" feel of the factory seats, just have something to "protect" the seats from spills and whatnot over time (though I had one MAJOR soda spill in the back seat the day before it arrived!!!). But, in the end, it worked out better than expected.
