Well, good luck!

Take pictures, and I hope you have the wallet to match that ambition!

It would certainly be unique if nothing else. Start a thread when you get rolling and if you end up looking for fabricators PM me and I can get you in contact with some good ones! It is going to be a heck of a technical challenge, but it would be fun in a straight line with some 26" slicks on the front wheels!

i know, but i realy think a type r k swap would probably be similar in cost once all said in done, so im hopin kraftwerks comes out wit a kit soooonnn because that would probbly be a cheaper fix for my power thirst -__-

You that are looking to make the GE-8s fast need to keep up with what Lyon is doing to his... He cranked it up in the first moments of the new year to drive it for the first time with a turbocharger providing boost.... There are still issues that need tending to but not nearly what would be involved just getting a car ready to accept a K20.... The amazing thing is the relatively small amount of money he has in this project but even more amazing is the hot rodder need for speed that has motivated Lyon to invest the time, risk, sweat and blood into see this effort of his get to the point it has in such a short period of time..

ok so money aside and purely measurements focused on you can swap in:

b series (not legal in states due to engine back dating laws)
k series (has been done multiple times with the gd3 and ge8 just not in the states)
r series ( you will gain .2 liters)

the j series will not fit because the distance between the firewall and the radiator. i have measured it up to see if it was possible.

Sorry to bring a thread back from the dead, but because we don't even have an emissions test anymore here in Arkansas, I was surprised about that engine back dating law. Never heard of that. I'm still impressed with the Fit's response to mods, though. After owning a Del Sol Si D16Z6 with a SRI and headers, I was still disappointed at the lack of engine response it had. The L15A7 and D16Z6 put out about the same torque, and still I'm amazed at how quick the Fit is out of the gate compared to my old Sol (And the weird part is the weights are pretty close too...). IMO, the only real swaps that would make sense for a Fit would be an F/H series or K-series. Both are OBD-II, DOHC or SOHC with a big aftermarket, and make torque down low where it would be needed. The R18 is a good engine for economy, but from what I've heard from guys around here that try and tune them in Civics, it's just not worth it.

Someone's already done something similar with a Smart Fortwo...except it was a monster truck.

the problem with the f/h series is the intake manifold would butt up into the firewall so you would have to do some pounding.

the L motor has close to the same power as the d series because of the updated cop ignition rather than running a distributor.

putting a engine older than the chassis is a federal law. emissions relaxed states dont enforce it as strongly.

You won't be able to cut into the frame with the ge8 to make room the same way they did with the gd3. Not without extreme fabrication.

Hooray for learning.

And stuff I probably couldn't have learned in school either!
Thanks for the info guys. I think the Fit's L15A7 could hold its own though if it just had a larger aftermarket, and not just with bolt-ons but also with engine internals like camshafts, forged pistons and rods, and if there were also an intake manifold for us GE8 people.

Granted, the integrated exhaust manifold poses a problem, but the CR-Z has one too, and that doesn't seem to stop the aftermarket.

bisimoto pumped out 500+whp out of the l15a7. I think that is almost an absolute maximum due to the small port design running out of ability to flow.

That's more than I expected! I think that would probably be plenty for any street-tuned Fit.

So since you didn't want me to burst your bubble.. does the lack of follow up mean reality finally set in and killed your delusional "J35 in a GE" plans?

Front-halving what is more or less a brand new car would require an astronomical budget.

The cross sectional area of the front 'frame' is less than that of a typical textbook. It really cant be modified for much of anything. This is one of the high tensile stength sections of the frame. Halving it would indeed be the only option.

I don't believe anyones' plans anymore unless they can spell out in fairly specific steps how they will get to the end and how they will fund it.
