Those are the ones you used? I'm surprised just based on my measurements of the opening on my wheel (at about 2 3/16 or 2.185 in) versus his measurement of the bottom of cap at 2.6 in. Also the design of those looks like it was initially supposed to press into the center of a wheel rather than go AROUND the opening. Of course we might not be using the correct part, but as long as it works it works.

I think I'll take some more measurements of my wheel and see if I can find some old civic at a junk yard so I can actually look at these in person. Thanks very much for your help, I'll try and do a posting on all of the information I get as a result of this and will be sure to mention your work.

 

Updated size (in case anybody gives a hoot) of the hole in the middle of a 2011 base steel wheel.

ID: 2 3/16 (2.1875 inches or 5.556 cm)
OD: 2 6/16 (2.375 or 6.03 cm)

These measurements are taken at the top edge of the opening. There is a flare outwards as you go closer towards the axle.

 

As I said I can't take any measurements right now. When I first sat the cap on the wheel it was loose. I did a couple wraps of black friction/electrical tape. Still somewhat loose but as you pound them on the get real tight.

I suspect to get them off will have to hit them from the inside. I have distant relative works at local electro plating factory. Going to see if I can get them re-chromed. I also need to touch up the paint on my wheels. I guess did not prep enough as paint peeked a bit on one of them on the lip.

If you can find them at a junk yard would be the best though.

Someone else had posted on here using same caps. That is where I got the idea.

You do not use winter tires in the summer!!
They will weAr out twice as fast. They are made of a softer rubber that doesn't freeze like
A regular tire.
I bought the car including the winter tires in California! Almost as good as 4x4 in the snow !
