Hello all. I'm rather annoyed at myself for sliding my 2009 Honda Fit Sport into a parking lot pillar yesterday evening (damn winter weather) and damaging my driver's side mirror. I called the Honda dealership for replacement information and they want $405 + tax for the job.

While the dealership price isn't unreasonable, I'd like to try to tackle the job myself before resorting to the dealership. I've replaced mirrors on a pre-2000 Dodge Neon and Ford Escort before, but nothing on any vehicles made in the past 10 years.

Is there anywhere I can get detailed instructions on how to replace the mirror (i.e. information on removing the door panel and mirror assembly)?

You can find this in the honda jazz/fit esm. If you give me some time i can prob convert that info into a pdf if you dont want to get this for yourself.

Have you bought new mirrors yet? if not how about replacing with some powered ones! im considering this myself.

 

Perhaps the thread on adding turn signals to the side mirrors might help? To do that, you need to get down as far as removing the glass mirror and the outer cover:

If you actually need to replace the part where it attaches to the car, then you might need the service manual...

 

I did the winkers convert and it is not difficult to do. I hope you have a heated garage to do it in as it is not a 5 minute job.

I need to do the same on my 09 Fit. I'm thinking of ordering from ebay one of the whole non-heated powered mirrors, where it includes everything including wire with connector.

Shouldn't removing the mirror from the door be fairly straightforward, following the linked post. The picture where it showed 3 bolts exposed after removing the cover right above in the corner where the mirror attaches to the door? Then just snake the wire in there to the connector (or snip & add extension wire like above)

 

I see no difference in doing that. It is very simple to replace the whole mirror. I personally would not go for powered folding ones but prefer mine with winkers.

 

To follow up, I just replaced my left mirror yesterday, didn't even have to disconnect the power/lock console plug, after unclipping, just turned the whole panel vertically while still connected so it rests on the ground as I unplugged the mirror adapter and put in new one.

The 3 hex bolts mounted fine (from picture I posted above), but the philips screw doesn't go into my new mirror (it seems smaller). Not sure what it does, maybe stabilizes the mirror? I noticed it vibrates more than my previous broken one, but that could just be due to the lower quality non-OEM replacement.

 

What Philips screw? I do not recall a screw.

 

In the picture a few posts above, there's a hole that has a philips screw that is between the two hex bolts on the left and one on right.

 

I see it now. What did it do on the old mirror? Can you see what it went into? Your mirror should not vibrate.

 

I bought the replacement parts on Bernardi, they just arrived today. I am going to attempt this myself this weekend. EEKKKK!!!!

 

Don't know what it did on the old mirror, just had the screw in it. It's probably a general purpose screw that isn't being used. The vibrations aren't major, only when driving at speed, things are a bit blurry.

Just a warning, I didn't get it from reading the original instructions, be careful to snake the wire harness UNDER a metal arm in the door so it doesn't interefere with the power windows. When I did this originally I didn't pay attention, and first time I lowered the windows, it ripped the connector. Luckily it didn't break in another spot and the connector still works.

 

I am looking for an old damaged mirror for the electrical parts, 2009 - present. Either left or right. Anyone still have their old one? Will pay shipping. Send me a PM please.

I just had an accident yesterday where some oncoming jerk wrecked my drivers side mirror and didn't stop. The glass shattered as did the plastic cover at the back. I know the glass can be replaced separately but can the plastic shroud that faces forward or do I just need to do the whole assembly? Also is the below part all I need. From the part it looks like the plastic shell in front can be replaced without the whole unit? I reviewed several youtube videos and it looks like the hardest part is not dropping the 10mm bolts down the door.

Only the glass and cover broke? The insides still function? I doubt it but if so then just replace cover and mirror.

 

I'll check again but the insides look intact. I saw another video. One the bolts need to be accessed by 3 holes through the door in another there is just a plastic panel and the bolts are beneath it at the corner of the door. Not sure which for the GE. I already ordered the part so I guess I'll just replace the whole thing.

Yes it looks like part 11 the skull cap got knocked clean off and the mirror glass broke. I already ordered the $50 replacement full mirror set. I wonder why there is such a price variation Honda wants $250 for the full mirror.

 

maybe the 250 comes with all motors, and the part that attaches to the door

and the 50 part, is just hte mirror + skull cap?
