Dw-1 = better brake torque launches.

I'm sure you guys have seen the threads by now about dw-1 ATF. I just thought I'd let the at guys know that it does improve the quality of the AT driving experience. Shifts are smoother and power transfer is significantly more... Crispy, it's very crisp. When I used to launch out of brake torque, it used to be a very slushy sluggish experience. Now the power transfer is very immediate and much more deliberate. It actually feels like a launch. Now some of this is probably just because I needed to change my fluid, but it is better than it has EVER been, most of you probably won't ever need or appreciate the difference except in cold weather shifting, but still it may be worth it.

Yes, that is the fluid Lyon was talking about. DW-1 is the OEM ATF by Honda that is replacing the previous Z1 ATF (also by Honda). Here is a technical service bulletin about it.

I recently bought a 2011 Fit Sport AT (US). Does anyone know if the 2011s are coming with DW-1?

2011 definitely does come with DW-1. Some later 2010 may have since the fluid was introduced June 2010.

Later,

I was thinking about changing my ATF somewhere around 20-25k, do you think this is too soon? or should I just wait to about 30k?

depends on what is your purpose of changing.

If your intention is to get rid of the Z1 and get the "benefits" of the new DW-1, you can change it right now. Actually a few drain/fills are needed to increase the percentage.

If you are doing the labor yourself, the cost of this change is relatively cheap as car maintenance goes.
I got a case of DW1 and plan to just drain/fill the ATF at the next 4 yearly 4oil changes (I don't make it to MM=0% over a year, and it's convenient to do both changes at the same time).

If you are fine how the car performs and just want to "use-up" the lifespan of the ATF, I think you don't need to change the fluid until 60k (under normal or even severe conditions-extreme conditions like desert rally/racing may warrant extra service). You better just check it once in awhile for level and give it a sniff, perhaps at your oil change intervals.

Hm, I guess my main purpose of changing would be for the benefits of the new dw-1 ATF.

I'm happy with the performance of my fit but I the smoother shifting and improved power transfer kind of enticed me to switch

I'll check my transmission fluid first when I get a chance before I actually consider; thanks for the advice!

Aye, with ATF more frequency changes are beneficial when only doing a cheap 20 dollar drain and fill. This ensures that by the time you get to 100k when the original fluid would normally be broken down you will already have replaced 90-95% of the fluid rather than just 50% with only 1 drain and fill.
