Unhappy Another Fit - All 4 wheels stolen

So yesterday morning I was getting ready for work when my neighbour told me that all the 4 wheels on my fit are gone. Here is an image of my poor car bitting the dust. The car had factory alarm and Honda lock nuts.

I spent the day yesterday getting a police report, talking to the insurance company. Now I can't decide what to do next. The insurance will cover everything (less deductible), but I cannot decide between getting the original OEM rims back or after-market rims or even black steelies.

I do not want to reduce the resale value of the car too much, on the other hand, I do not want to make my Fit a potential target again. What would you guys suggest.

Thanks.

Ouch. That rear bumper doesn't look good either... how's the other side?

Sorry to hear it. Did you have wheel locks? (edited out after I re-read... then back in after a reply was written)

I'd get aftermarket wheels & aftermarket locks. maybe if you have some leftover $$ go for an alarm with shock sensor.

Linked photo below for ya... I'm sure it's been a long day.

Yes, I did have wheel locks from Honda. They left me those locks as a souvenir. The bumper damage was from another incident that happened about 3 months ago. New Jersey has not been kind to my Fit.

Lots of great Ethnic cuisine in that area... although not the safest. used to take the NJTransit from the Edison station to NYC when I worked in S. Plainfield. - I got out...

I added more in my orig. post.

Sorry to hear this. If you aren't wanting to depreciate the value of the car, stick with original. After market wheels would eliminate a lot of people from being interested in buying the car down the road. You could put after markets on and they could be exactly what the next thief might want. It's a crap shoot.

How do the thieves remove the wheel locks? What if one were to install a 2nd or 3rd set of wheel locks, IOW, 2 or 3 locks per wheel to at least slow down the theft process?

yes, you can use a combo of wheel locks to deter thieves even more, but like whaap said, it's really a crap shoot. thieves sometimes have the keys for your wheel locks, they're not hard to acquire from retailers and honda, all they have to do is buy them.

they could also hammer/force an incorrect socket onto the key, or use a vice grip to remove the lock, it all depends on the kind of lock they're trying to remove.

it sucks, but wheel locks aren't really 'anti-theft,' they're really deterrents to simply discourage thieves who haven't done their homework and planned ahead.

sorry about your wheels OP...=(

Wheel locks are more of a hassle for tire techs than for thieves. A good set of "easy-outs" will take out just about any locking lug-nut as long as you don't care if you damage the nut.

I would hate to have to remove multiple locks per wheel just to do a tire rotation. I wish there was a better solution.

Yeah I would put OEM back on there and have whatever the best wheel locks are installed.

get diff type of wheel locks/ upgrade your alarm system. That has tilt sensor, remote alarm. it will go off if your car even moves when they try to jack the car up.

The only wheel that would be theft resistant is steelies. If you are in a cruddy area that's what I'd do. Otherwise, go back with stock or something neutral.

For lugs, I would just mix them up to slow down the thief. Get one spline drive, one stock, and two different locks. I'd also mark the wheels on the inside somewhere inconspicuously so that you can find your wheels and wreak havoc on the thief.

I have been leaning towards steelies myself. But not sure where to get them from. Based on older threads here, the only place to get them is from a Honda dealership and $140 per steelies seems a bit too much.

The dealership has quoted $3200 for the OEM alloys. I was hoping to get insurance to send me a check for that amount which I will keep for a later time. Meanwhile, I was looking to spend around $500 for steelies and tires to put on the Fit.

Sorry to hear about your Fit, its like you cant own a 4lug honda in NJ without something happening. I would get steelies, their cheap, you can pocket the change and wont have to worry about people taking them again. Besides I see plenty of fits around here with steelies(probably got stolen too) and they dont look too bad.

You're gonna thank me for this. You'll save a ton and still have OEM Honda rims but the upgraded 16" rims. These look nicer than the stock 16" Sport rims IMO. Limited time special though so I wouldn't delay.

Scroll halfway down the webpage below, $193 each includes center caps. Add shipping, lug nuts & locks, TPMS sensors, good tires, installation and balance. Your total should be less than half the insurance money you'll receive. Imagine nicer rims, brand new tires and $1,600 to blow or put in the bank. Somebody please steal my wheels.

sorry...

If you want steelies you could post a WTB thread. I'm sure there are several guys with base model fits that have gone after market. I have mine with 11 miles on them. Too bad I'm all the way in Texas.

Btw older civic steelies fit...(4x100mm)

the roads in this state are a disgrace... we pay the most taxes and have the worst roads.

if i had my rims stolen i'd replace with steelies and rest easy.

btw, i bought my fit in your lovely town.

sorry for your loss, that sucks big time. I hope those thieves get some major karma coming their way. I assume you're monitoring craigslist, ebay, etc to nab those punks.

$3200?!! how does that price breakdown work out?!
