stupid question about OEM carpet floor mat

The rear floor mats have a plastic tab on the side. What is that for? Is it supposed to attach somewhere to keep it in place?

Yep (more or less).

They're supposed to slide in/under the panel or whatever it is next to them.http://www.collegehillshonda.com/ins.../floormats.pdf

Not a stupid question at all. I cleaned my car out the other day, and when putting the mats back in, noticed the tab. Lol, it took me a few seconds to realize what it was for. And Goobers called it; slips under the panel.

How come only one side of my rear mats has this tab? I forgot which side has it, maybe the passenger.
